Chapter 8

Jace was on the phone with his mother. She felt that her youngest son was ignoring her and decided to find out why.

Jace was now informing her of his travel plans.

"Yes Monday, I'm going next week."
"Mmm, I was hoping to see you Jacey..(he hated when people called him that, except his mother.
"Three weeks at least, at most four weeks "

She hesitated before speaking and he immediately knew why, so he waited

"So mum, you were going to say? " He prompted gently.
"No I was just wondering if... I mean you're going to Italy... and as far as I know she... Is there"

"Riele, mum? Is that who you are talking about?"
"yes, Riele"
"Go ahead, mom..say what you wanna say.."

"Look, Jace, you know I love you, you,re my youngest son, and I just cannot bear to see you hurt again, because of that girl."

Jace felt his irritation rise very quickly.

"That girl, mom, was like a daughter to you , remember?
And that girl was going to be my wife" he continued.

His mother drew a breath.
"I'm sorry, Jace, but I cannot pretend that you weren't beyond broken after the last time she had rejected you. And how I found you lying on your bedroom floor with.."

"Mum!" He exclaimed.
"Please, I'm sorry, mum, I didn't mean to snap at you. I know you love me and I appreciate your concern. If it wasn't for you and dad and the rest of my family and friends , I wouldn't have made it through."

"But please, don't worry, those days are over. I was just a kid then. I was dumb and immature and I didn't know how to handle my emotions. I'm a grown man now and I have learnt from my mistake. I promise you."

His mother wiped a stray tear away.

"Oh, Jace."
"It's gonna be fine, I'll be fine."
He smiled brightly.
"Everything is gonna be Just perfect. Tell you what, I'm coming over tomorrow and then I can spend the day with you guys and we can go to the ranch..or if you,d prefer we can take a roadtrip?"

"That sounds great, Jace. I'll talk to your dad and call you back later, okay sweety."
"Bye, mum"
