I'm six today. That's what my mom had told me. I asked her when my party with cake and presents would be starting. I also asked her when my brother was coming back home to eat cake with me and help blow out my candles. I couldn't do it on my own as small as I was with my tiny little lungs. She looked at me for a long time. I was kinda confused why she hadn't said anything. It was like she was upset with me. She would always stay quiet when I got into trouble or did something wrong.
She took me into the kitchen and sat me down. In front of me was a cupcake with a candle that was shaped like the number six. She lit the candle and told me to make a wish and blow it out. The candle was easy to blow out and I wished to be tall like my brother B.B. was. Of course I didn't tell my mom what the wish was or it wouldn't come true.
The cupcake was gone in no time and my mom washed my face icing covered face off. She had told me to go play but it was never fun playing alone. I went to my brothers room to wait for him but he never came in. By eight my mother walked in and told me it was time for bed.
"Mommy, when's B.B. gonna be home? He was supposed to tell me a story," I had asked. She didn't know what to say.
"Well.... sweetie... B.B. won't be coming home for a long time. You see he's out fighting dragons and  setting fairies free. He's building a big castle..... he's finishing the story so one day he will be able to tell you," she told me but her voice had changed. It was like some kind of weight was put upon her
My mother picked me up, carried me to my bed and tucked me in. She kissed my head and turned my night light on. I was too young to know what was really happening.
I fell asleep pretty easily dreaming of the castle he was building and of all the tiny little fairies dancing around freely. My dreams were always filled with the stories he had told me.
