I felt unease within the room. Finally, Adam spoke.

“Guests? You don’t mean the whole of the UK? Do you?”

“What do you think I meant? Monkeys on unicycles? Of course I meant the people of the UK!"

“But that’s impossible now... the gates are shut... they won’t open in time for people to get in... it’s got this 24 hour lockin...”

“THERE HAS TO BE A WAY TO SAVE INNOCENT LIVES!” I shouted, losing my temper

“He’s right, the gates won’t open.” A familiar voice rang through the room, “However, there is a way to save people.”

“What is it?! We’re running out of time”

My father looked at me. I could tell he registered my determination as he smiled and said,

“You’re full of heart son, and I’m proud of you. So I’ll tell you what I’ve been doing for these past years when I have been missing your childhood. A few years back, I accidentally discovered something. Something people had been working for years to develop. The art of teleportation. I could’ve made billions of pounds and never had to work again if I had published my discovery, but I didn’t. When working on the dome, I realised quickly that not everyone would be saved and like yourself, I was outraged. So, I looked for means of saving people and accidentally one day I teleported my lunch. After much testing, it was deemed human safe, so, I started visiting every household in the UK and installing the teleportation devices I created, under the disguise of a man fitting a new boiler. Every household in the UK has a teleporter son, all you need to do is activate them and they will be able to teleport here.”

Awestruck, I replied,”How do I do it?”

“Simple. That bracelet you’re wearing that I gave you for your 12th birthday has a remote in it. All you need to do is say is “safeport activate” and it will send a signal to the teleporters to start working.

I looked at the bracelet. I remember the day I got it. Dad was back from work specially to see me on my birthday. I wasn’t expecting to see him as he said he was working on something really important and had to stay at work, making a joking remark to leave him a piece of cake. You can guess my reaction when I saw him open the door. It was my best birthday in all my history. He gave me a box saying, “It’s not much, but I wanted something to remind you of me.” I opened the box to see the rubber bracelet, which in those days were highly fashionable. I was ecstatic. I had my name engraved on it and it was my favourite colour, yellow. He made me promise to wear it all the time, little did I know that he was hiding the activation key on me.

Holding my arm out, I called, “Safeport, activate!”

The bracelet glowed a fluorescent green colour as millions of teleportation devices were going live. I moved back to the desk and ordered the system to override and take air of every television and radio in the country.

“Hello, My name is Mayor Jacob Gardener and I command you listen if you value your lives. Nuclear war is imminent as North Korea have sent a missile en route to America. The radioactivity will kill you in an instant when it reaches our position. I need you to walk into your boiler room. There you will see a strange light. It is a teleportation device and will teleport you to safety. I understand this seems highly farfetched, but trust me. This is not a prank. This real.”

The console switched off. I ran to the balcony and looked across the square. I started to see people gingerly step out of the portals and into the dome. Relief set in. I can’t afford to be complacent though, there is still much more to be done, but at least I know the people I care most about are safe... or so I thought...
