________________________________________________________________________________Michael's POV
"I am married. And my wife will probably be here either tonight or tomorrow." I almost swore I saw her face drop."I figured. Why'd you say that you're looking for someone then? Cheating isn't ok."
"I haven't cheated on her, we've just been going through a rough patch and we're starting the divorce process."
"I'm really sorry about that Michael." "No it's fine. I'm not too sad anymore." She chuckled. "But she's your wife. Won't you miss her?" "We've been cold for awhile and I was pretty bummed because it didn't work out, but then I found you yesterday and last night and started thinking that just when you think your situation is bad, someone's doing worse. I'm glad I found you to make sure that your fine."She started shaking her head and I noticed she seemed really stressed out of nowhere. "Michael I can not stay here! You are a man and I am a 19 year old female and you're married to a woman! Do you know how this is gonna look to your wife?! It's gonna look horrid to her! Have you told her?! She's gonna use this as grounds for a divorce against you! Michael you have to take me to a homeless shelter!" "No!" "What do you mean no?! Michael she won't be OK with this!" "I mean no, and she'll have to suck it up." "Michael, I don't wanna come between you and her." "We're already gaped and broken apart, you're not doing any damage." "Michael you have to take me to a homeless shelter, I can not and I won't live with you and you're married Michael! Michael this is awful. Michael I have to leave." "No, you are staying here with me my friend." "No I can't. Michael she's your wife, this is gonna be very unsettling to her and she's gonna hurt me Michael because your her husband." "Why would she hurt you?" "The same reason the other girls did I guess, because they liked him and I guess she might hurt me because I'm here and you both are married." I watched as she started to fidget and I saw her anxiety peak before me.
"What did I tell you earlier? I said I won't let anyone hurt you, correct?" She nodded. "OK, just remember that. That's it and everything will be fine." She just nodded hesitantly."But how do you seem so sure?" "Because I just know", I gave her a smile and she smiled back.
I wheeled her over to the table since it was time to eat dinner. She smiled at me as I took a seat across from her. We were having chicken alfredo with broccoli. Well she was having chicken alfredo with broccoli. I didn't get any broccoli. My chef placed a plate in front of her and I. I said our grace and she bowed her head and I began eating. I was halfway finished and then I realized she hadn't even picked up her fork. Mary and Bill were almost done with theirs and Ally seemed a bit uncomfortable. "Are you not hungry Ally?" I asked her. "I am. I wasn't sure if I was allowed to eat yet." "Well it's there for you to eat, that's why it's in front of you?" Bill spoke sounding more like a question. "What do you mean?" she asked. "You can eat sweetheart, when someone puts the food down on the table you can eat it, it's for you", Mary said. "But what if Michael wants more? I was supposed to wait until "he" was done eating and if I let him hurt me without fighting him he'd give me scraps of his food. And I'm not allowed to have my own food. He would give me my own as a test but I'm not supposed to eat it. He eats his and mine so I have to wait and eat whatever is left, if I'm allowed." Mary placed her fork down. "OK...sweet pea I forgot your medicine, you are supposed to be taking this before you eat", Mary told her. She grabbed a bottle of water and gave her a pill. "You can drink the water to swallow your pill." She swallowed it before guzzling the water quickly and Mary handed her another and she finished it quickly and then she drank another. "That water was really good? It must be super expensive and I drank three", she said nervously. "When's the last time you had water? Mary asked her.
"Um...I don't..I don't know, when I'm allowed to drink things it's normally just something really really spicy, when his friends force it down my throat and it tastes and smells pretty bad." "Mary grabbed the note pad and the pen and pencil. "What container is it in?" Mary asked her. "It's normally a can. But it's the tall one, not like a...um.. cola soda." "Do you know the colors on the can?" Mary asked her. "The can is white and it's red and I think there may be a crown on it and it says Bud..weezer or Budwiser." "Budweiser! B.U.D.W.E.I.S.E.R?" Bill asked her. She nodded. "I hated the taste and the smell of it, they'd always make me drink alot and it would always make me feel bad, I told him that I was possibly allergic and he just laughed at me. I thought maybe I had the same allergy my dad did to things in a can. He'd always drink something in a can and he'd drink lots of it, and it would make him really really mean. Before my grandma's funeral, he drank lots of that stuff and he got really mean." "I'm sorry to hear that", Bill told her. "I wish he could fix his allergy." "You said you were 14 when you were taken right?" Mary asked her.
She nodded. "Did anybody tell you about things your not supposed to drink? Mary asked her. "Mmhm, my grandma always said not to drink the things that my daddy drinks because she said his illness might run in my bloodline. I never knew what she meant by that but it always stuck with me in case some day I figure that out." Mary nodded.
"You're welcome to eat now", I said to her. "Are you sure?" she asked. "Mmhm, I wanna know if your gonna like it, I encouraged her. "Really?" I nodded and she sighed before hesitantly saying OK and picking up her fork. She twirled the noodles around her fork and began eating. And then she took more bites and she ate some more and she licked the sauce on her lips and she continued to eat. I could tell she enjoyed it. She continued eating until all was finished and then she wiped her mouth and placed down her fork. "You're not gonna tell him I ate are you?" she asked anxiously. "Sweet pea, we don't know him. Nor do we want to. We just want you to be safe, right here. We want your well being", Mary told her. "Right, you promise?" "I promise, I said to her. "Promise." "I promise." "I too promise, I'm not here much but I promise to grant your tummy well-being when I am here, through my cooking", Chef told her. She nodded, giving us a half smile. The chef took her plate and Mary washed her hands before grabbing some other medicines. She gave her some other pills and then another bottle of water which she drank quickly. "My head feels a lot better", Ally spoke up. "Yeah you were pretty hungry and you were dehydrated."
"The only water I could drink was the water that trickled in through the roof when it would rain and I was only able to drink it whenever there were left over Budweiser cans, and I had to arrange them underneath the crack to catch the water so I could drink out of it and most of the time the water tasted like the stuff in the can, and I never got a full can of water because it never rained hard enough when I was unchained." "I'm really sorry to hear that, but now you can have all the water you need, since you're here", Michael said. "Woah, you're gonna allow me to drink from your tap? That's really really nice of you! When he would leave, he'd place me with his friend and his friend would let me drink the tap water, his friend was nice to me even though him was mean. He'd give water from his tap and he wouldn't even tell him that I drank it."
"I have a water filter on my tap water, because tap water is clean, but there's micro germs and stuff in tap water so too much of it could hurt your body. So most people drink water from water bottles or they use a water purifier on their faucet. So if you want to, you can drink water from my tap but I'd prefer you drink bottled water instead." "He said that bottled water is only for people with worth and good girls, and that I would have to be really really good to him in order to have it. I'd try, but it hurt a lot and he was really really mean and he made me feel gross." "Well, you won't ever have to worry about that here, OK? If you want, you could get your water yourself, or just ask and someone here will grab it for you", Mary said to her. "Really?" she asked full of excitement. "Yeah", I said smiling at her excitement. "It's about time for me to go, would you like me to help you to your bed first?" Mary asked her. "Yes please", she answered.
"Goodnight Ally", I said to her. "Good night Michael", She said. Bill waved to her and she waved back as Mary wheeled her upstairs into her room.
Ally's POV
Mary backed into the room and pulled up next to the bed. She peeled back the fresh covers and then carefully placed me in. "I'll be here in the morning, along with more detectives." "OK", I said to her.
We said goodnight and then she left and closed the room door. I laid there and I thought about everything and everything that Michael said. And what his wife would look like and I thought about how nice he seems and why they could possibly be getting a divorce and why he didn't have any broccoli on his plate today at dinner.
