THIS IS NOT EDITED.

I made my way to the parking lot, and Kayla led me to one of the flashiest cars in the lot. I crawled into the passenger seat and gasped.

“This is your car?” I exclaimed running my hand across the zebra print seat covers. Kayla shrugged like it was normal to have a purple jaguar. That’s right, you heard me. Purple freaking jaguar. Which to her, it probably was.

“Yeah, I mean my family is sorta better off, so you know. I got it for my sixteenth birthday.” Her cheeks redden in embarrassment. She was ashamed? How can someone be ashamed of such a car?

“Duude!” I said extending on the ending. “I am in LOVE with your car!” She smiled at me, and pulled out of the boring parking lot that our school obtained. Cracks covered the pavement. We obviously needed a new lot, before one of the many potholes blows a tire. It probably already had. Lost in a daydream, I didn’t know where we were going, until we pulled up outside the woods. Kayla hopped out, and ran towards the opening between the trees. I shook my head, at her eagerness. I followed her in, but only with caution. The woods could be a deep and dark place. You never know what lurks within.

Can I just say that keeping up with Kayla is extremely hard? First of all, she managed to perfectly avoid all the hanging branches, as well as woods. I on the other hand stumbled along the woods, as gracelessly as possible. I constantly fell over everything. Also my hair kept getting stuck in branches, and stuck up in all directions. I probably looked like a mad woman. So I wasn’t the least surprised when I got separated by the graceful Kayla. I don’t know what was going through my head at the time though, because I didn’t notice it until later. I take that back. I do no what was on my mind. Unimportant things were on my mind. You know like things like math, and what was for dinner, and…Tristan. But not a lot about him! Because I don’t care about him.. He’s stupid. But why did he walk away from me like that?! And why do I care? I barley know the kid. And what I know from him? I don’t think I want to know him. He is a jerk! “Mine, mine, mine” that’s all he cares bout.

Frustrated I stomped through the forest, and that’s when I noticed I was lost. Stupid Tristan! It’s his entire fault! I shook my head angrily. Focus Leah, blaming him isn’t going to get you unlost. Suddenly a twig snapped, and I froze. I looked around with caution, and that’s when I remembered where I was and how dangerous it could be in the woods. Another thing I noticed as I looked around was that dusk was slowly approaching, and as fast as it was coming, it was leaving. That’s when I completely freaked out. I ran through the tangled underbrush, trying to find Kayla or a way out. Finally after what seemed like hours I ran out of breath. My side hurt and I was panting.  I sat down on a mossy log, as defeat filled me. I looked up at the starry sky, and wished for a way out. I sat there starring the night creatures came out. I ignored their presence. What was the worst that could happen, I get eaten by a wolf? I scoffed at the silly thought. I was being ridiculous. Suddenly a twig snapped much to close for comfort and I looked down. I froze when my eyes landed on bright yellow luminous eyes. I let out a piercing scream, and it startled the magnificent creature. I sprang up and ran. I went as fast as I could, but I was terribly out of shape. My head start might as well have been nothing because the wolf soon caught up with me. I tried to run faster but it seemed to enjoy the chase. I tripped over a root and landed sprawled out on the ground. The wolf sat down next me, calmly. Like some kind of domesticated animal. Puzzled I starred at it. It was Huge! It’s sheer size made me shake. I closed my eyes accepting my fate as I waited for it to kill me. I exposed my neck, waiting for the sharp bite near my jugular. It moved closer, and I could feel my its warm breath on my throat. A single tear ran down my cheek.

“Leah!” I heard Kayla calling for me in the distance, but I knew it would be too late for her to save me.  Suddenly the warm breath was gone. I opened my eyes, only to find that I was completely alone.

“Hello?” I called out, looking for the wolf. Arms encircled me, and I spun around to see Kayla.

“Where did you go?!” she exclaimed. "One second I’m explaining my theory on the cat apocalypse and the next you were gone!” Her tone took on a scolding note. I felt like a little kid being chastised for taking the last cookie. I gave her a sheepish look.

“Sowy.” I fake pouted, giving my best puppy dog eyes, and liver lip. She cracked up.

“I defiantly need to help you with that puppy dog face! You’re terrible at it!” She doubled over laughing. I scowled at her, and stuck my tongue out. She was too busy laughing to notice.

“You’re mean! I crossed my arms over my chest. She sobered up a bit, but not much. She still had a twinkle in her eye.

“Sowy Lee Lee,” she mimicked my earlier words later. She gave me a crazy look that looked like a demented dog. I cracked up.

“You look like stupid wolf!” I laughed at her, and she scowled at me apparently offended by words.

“I’ll have you know, that wolves are very intelligent!” she glared, and at the mention of “wolves” I remembered my adventures of being lost.

“Oh my god Kayla! Guess what happened!” Before she could answer I was already continuing. “A wolf chased me!” Her jaw dropped. I almost told her how it came close to biting me, but it seemed, wrong? Almost intimate? Which sounds silly to me, because it’s a wolf. I mean unless you’re into that, but I’m not one for bestiality. Anyway, panic shone through Kayla’s eyes, replacing the once twinkley look. Her nose slightly lifted, almost as if she was smelling for something.

“Leah, what did the wolf look like?” she spoke calmly, but her eyes gave away her fear.

“I don’t know? A wolf?” I tried to remember what exactly it looked like, but it was a wolf. Don’t they all look the same? Then I remembered its size. “A big wolf.” I clarified.

“Do you remember anything else of its appearance? She started freaking out. I didn’t know what to do!

“No.” I said.

“You need to remember!” she said, and I just shook my head at her. Didn’t she care about how I got away?

“I cant! I wasn’t looking at it properly!” she groaned, and then she regained her composure.

“Okay.” She took a deep breath. “Its getting dark, and we don’t want anymore wolf run-ins” She let out a laugh to lighten the mood, but it didn’t do much. She seemed angry. Maybe I should apologies? But it’s not my fault! Doesn’t she realize I was in a near death experience?! Kayla led us through the thick foliage of trees. She must go into the woods all the time if she’s this good at navigating it. On the way back I heard her muttering things to herself like, “I’m going to kill him.” And “what does he think he’s doing?” I don’t know who she was talking about but I hope it’s not me, and she secretly thought I was a boy…

We made it through the woods quickly. I couldn’t help but feel like we were being followed. When we came to the car, I wasn’t in the mood to gush over the amazing vehicle. I climbed in silently, and no one said a word the entire ride home. It was awkward to say the least, and Kayla still seemed pissed. Well looks like I just lost my only friend at school. When we made it to my house I slid out quietly.

“Bye, thanks” I mumbled. She seemed distracted, but still called out a “goodbye.” And shot me a smile. I walked into my foster home, and was met with…. Chaos.
