"Mom, why on Earth would you and Daddy do that?" I ask my mom who's currently checking the oven. She's baking a pie and it's been five minutes after she last checked it. Nakahalukipkip lamang ako sa kitchen counter habang pinapanuod siyang magbukas-sara ng oven.
"Ilang beses ko na bang sinabi sa inyo that I don't do date's and I don't have interest in men." Annoyed with the thought of them setting me up on a date. For the nth time! Ayoko sa men, men cause headache and stress. Baka magka pimples ako kapag napag-pasyahan kong sagutin ang mga nanliligaw sa akin. Not to mention, baka umiyak ang iba kapag pumili ako ng isa.
I checked the time using my mobile phone, muntik ko pang mahulog 'yon nang makitang malapit nang magtanghalian. Goodness! Late na ako sa appointment ko sa spa! If only I knew that this was the reason why they asked me to go home, sana pala ay hindi na ako sumipot at dumiretso nalang sa spa.
Sayang ang VIP membership ko 'don!
"Because it's needed, honey." Ani niya sa akin saka binuksan ulit ang oven at inilabas ang luto nang pie. Inamoy-amoy pa niya 'yon bago inilapag sa lamesa. Needed? By me? Who the hell told them that I need a husband?
I rolled my eyes when I heard her muttering 'for my in laws' and 'you should learn how to cook for your husband'.
The hell I would let that happen.
"You know that I'm still at the peak of my modelling career and besides, masyado akong busy sa modelling agency na ipina-handle ninyo. And I don't like guys with their unreasonable attitude like possessiveness, it gives me the creeps mom." Daing ko sa kaniya habang nagpapa-awa effect, peo her man lang gumana!
Dating modelo ang mommy ko at kalaunan ay nakapagapatayo it sa sariling modelling agency while my Dad is a licensed pediatrician. Nang ikasal sila ay natigil pansamantala si mommy sa pagma-manage ng company dahil sa pagbubuntis sa akin.
"Mom, you know that I'm still young and being stucked with a wrong guy is not in my plans!" I tried to convince her, but she just smiled at me. Great! Kulang nalang ay lumuha ako ng dugo! I don't wanna get married!
My mom sighed after she placed another two pies in the table.
"Dia, you know that daddy already said that the decsion is final. You know him," She tried to console me. But I still want to try my luck.
"I can talk to daddy." I assured her. Umiling lamang siya sa katigasan ng ulo ko.
"Please don't do anything that could make daddy mad at you, iha." She said as if she read my mind. I wanted to talk to the parents of the guy they wanted me to marry with. Like, do some deal? For sure they just want us to be together because they want their company to gain profits.
"Yeah, you both love me the why you always set me up on a date." I groaned. Maybe I could find a way to get out of this, mabilis ko naman nasasalisihan ang mga inirereto nila, so maybe this one is just a piece of a caramel cake. Yummy?
No! The hell would I find a guy 'yummy'!
"Napikon nga ata ang Daddy mo sa kaka-indian mo sa mga date na sine-set niya para sayo anak." My mom laughed at my pouting face. Yeah right, ang sarap ng buhay ko, parang caramel cake.
