Chapter Two: Time Flies
"Molek! Watch our right flank!" Sergeant Dezhat shouted at me.
"Right, sir!"
I grabbed my M16 and fired. The temperature is -17 and dropping. I searched the horizon to see all the enemy troops cowering in fear. I shot my weapon and hit the soldier dead between the eyes. I felt a jolt.
"Oh, it was only a dream."
I looked at my alarm clock. Its 3:37 in the morning. "School in 2 hours. Great." I put my head on my pillow and fell asleep once more.
"Amanda! Wake up hun! Time for school!" My mom shouted from downstairs. I grumbled and I grabbed the towel to take a shower.
I turned on the faucet, the hot water streamed on my body. "Who will take care of mom? Will Dimitri miss me? Dimitri... you damn bastard.." I thought.
I arrive at school and my friends approach me.
"Manda! I heard what happened. Maria is a wreck." Tyler said in a curious voice.
"Can everyone just-"
Dimitri was standing there, with a look in his eyes I couldn't describe. Dimitri was the most attractive guy I've ever seen. Tall, long brown hair, hazel eyes, Russian, abs.. Oh gosh, his abs. He has a cute baby face, which gets me every time.
"Manda.. Can we talk?"
"Sure."
We walked outside where it was a little bit quiet, and he turned and faced me.
"Manda, I heard what happened and I just wanted to say.."
He sounded sad, like he was about to cry.
"I.. still like you. A lot. I know what I did was stupid, I shouldn't of done that. You deserve so much better."
I hugged him and didn't let go.
"I missed you so much." I said, starting to cry.
I looked into his beautiful hazel eyes, and kissed him. This is what I missed, being with him everyday. Without a worry in the world, but not that's all going to end.
"Dimitri I've got to go. I'll see you later."
"Alright, gorgeous."
A few weeks pass, and it's the 4th of July 2018. Twenty more days until I leave. Shit. I wonder if anyone is available to hang out..
I look through my contacts on my phone.
Kaylie
Dimitri
Steven
Maria<3
I should give Dimitri a call. My heart races as each ring.
"Hello?"
"Dimitri? It's Amanda."
"Oh hey! What's up?"
I hear Steven scream in the background.
"Hold on you asshole!". Dimitri screams at him. I giggle.
"I'm just bored.. Do you wanna hang out?"
"Sure! Come on over."
"I'll be there in about an hour."
I hung up the phone and I see my mom.
"Mom, did you get a letter from Daddy?"
I was such a Daddy's Girl. I never left his side. When he got deployed I cried for weeks. I was diagnosed with mild depression, but it felt much, much worse. I got into drugs and alcohol and was stupid enough to lose my virginity.
"Yes, sweetie. I told him about your draft. He seemed to take it well. He always wanted his little girl to follow in his footsteps."
"Oh. Well that's good." I know my dad didn't mean that. He would never try to upset my mom even more.
"I'm going to Dimitri's. I'll talk to you later."
"Alright, don't stay out too late."
That went better than expected, I thought.
I started walking to his house, thinking about how my life would change in 20 days. I will be Marine. Fighting for my country. What if I died? How would Mom react? My little sister? How would Ashley be without an older sister? Nobody knows.
