Prologue

It all started on April 17, 2027. Humans were taking leaps and bounds in science, and longed to delve into the work of gods: creating life. They had been doing genetic experiments for years on a variety of subjects, both animal and human. Yet creating life always eluded them. So they settled on changing current life so drastically that it became something new. After years of hard work, they succeeded. No one knew that average day would be the start of a new era. Nor did they expect the repercussions of their actions to change the world in so many ways.

Generations passed, and the creations evolved rapidly until they rivaled the humans themselves. The creations, dubbed "Changelings" by the scientists, were made up of two kinds of subjects. There were post experiment humans, who could shift between a human form and the form of the animal whose genes were added to their own, and the post experiment animals, who grew as intelligent as humans and developed empathic abilities. Both were simply treated as circus freaks and lab rats.

The Changelings chafed at the bonds of their inferior status in society. They wanted a society of their own, parallel to the humans and the freedom to rule themselves as they choose. So they fought for their freedom, and eventually gained civil and land rights. After a few generations, Changelings populated nearly half of the earth. They formed their own society, their own government, and their own way of life. They took medieval weapons instead of guns to distinguish themselves from humans, and to appease the human governments, insuring that they would be able to defend themselves yet would be no threat if war came to pass. There was an uneasy peace for years, with minor incidents smoothed out by the ambassadors and civil rights activists that ferried between the two races in an attempt to keep the peace. Everyone knew it couldn't last forever.

Humans multiplied exponentially, until they started to overflow into lands that no longer belonged to them. The assassination of the third Changeling ambassador, a wolf Shifter named Ajuril, shattered the uneasy peace. A movement was blossoming among humans and Changelings that believed the races were incompatible. The humans and Changelings are rivals, and the prize is the world. Both governments denied any belief in this philosophy, but behind closed doors, many were becoming infected with the ideas of the radical movement. The Peace Parliament discouraged any retaliation, knowing if the humans thought them a threat, everything they fought for would be at risk. They strived to stop a war that could end an entire race. A smaller, rebelling group believed the humans should pay dearly for what they had done. Made up of Changelings of all different species scattered across the world, they adopted the banner of the Blood Wolves, and the ideals that in order to have peace of mind, the Changelings must be the last ones standing.

The world is on the brink of a war that could end everything.

Only time will tell who will be left standing.
