The Neptunus had crossed the North Sea and entered the mighty Atlantic. The sun had already travelled mid-way through the sky. Kristoff knocked on each door and announced that it was the time for breakfast.
The first one to the dining hall was Lady Anna, alone. Kristoff gathered all his courage and finally asked Anna, “Where is Mr. Brown? Won’t he be joining us.”
Anna smiled at Kristoff and said in her sweet voice, “He is still pretty hungover from all the drinking last night. He will be joining us in a few moments.”
Margaret entered and sat beside her mistress. Her face downwards. She was not used to dine with white people. Kristoff felt uncomfortable seeing Margaret sitting beside Anna. Dr. Stevens and Mr. Patel entered together. They had made a bond last night because of their hatred for Arthur.
After all the good morning phase, they started their breakfast on Souffle styled prepared Omelette, beans and Coffee. Dr. Stevens gave a sly smile and asked Anna, “Is Mr. Brown too sore from last night to come here and eat.”
Anna said, “I do not know about that but he slept like a baby last night. He didn’t even snore!” and smiled.
Stevens was feeling giddy to see Anna smile. She continued, “You men and all your silly fights! Make your peace with Arthur today for we have a long journey ahead of us and it would unbearable if you men just fight all the time.”
Mr. Patel faked a smile for the sake of courtesy. He was still feeling a little dizzy from all the brandy last night. He was quiet all through his meal and rarely spoke.
After Anna finished her meal, she left saying, “Let me go call Arthur, he probably fell asleep again.” Margaret left too.
Stevens and Patel went to the deck to share a smoke. They sat on the long-drawn chairs and enjoyed the cool breeze from the sea.
Mr. Patel suddenly asked, “You love Anna… Don’t you?”
Stevens replied without any hesitation, “More than my life itself… and it kills me when I see she is married to that scum.”
Mr. Patel was going to ask something but he was stopped from the sudden screaming sound that was heard from the cabins. They rushed to the room of Lady Anna. When they opened the door, they saw Anna standing on left corner of the room, her hands covering her face and her eyes wide open with shock. Margaret was on lying on the floor, unconscious.
But the unconscious body of Margaret was not the reason for the screaming of Anna. It was the lifeless body of Mr. Arthur Brown which lay on the bed. The sheets covered in fresh blood. The white sheet was now crimson from all the blood that escaped through the gaping hole on the chest of Arthur Brown. A knife was still placed on his open wound.
Kristoff heard the scream and rushed to Anna’s room and when he saw the horrific view, he couldn’t help himself but vomit all over the hallway.
