Chapter Three
Nico clutched his side as he walked down the corridors. Yesterday, when he was walking home, Percy had come up to him and told him if he told Sally about anything he had done, Nico would regret it. So, when he had arrived home Nico had to pretend as if nothing happened, treat his own wounds, and had to make up a lie about his beat up face.
Nico grimaced as someone bumped into him. His ribs already hurt enough from walking. Each step he took would send shocks all up his body. “Whoops” the person said. “Didn’t see you there.” Nico looked up and came face to face with Jason. As soon as he saw his smirk, Nico knew he actually did see him.
Jason swung his arc around Nico’s shoulder and lent against him. Nico felt his knee’s buckle at Jason’s weight and his legs slammed against the floor. “Pathetic” Jason sneered kicking Nico, causing him to crash into a wall.
Nico stood up quickly and ran out past the laughing students, ignoring the throbbing pain in his foot. He made his way to a bench in the corner of the courtyard, opening his lunch and taking a bite out of his sandwich. As soon as he did Nico felt sick. He threw the sandwich in the bin and walked to the toilets, he needed to take some more Panadol and maybe bandage his foot. Nico was sure he had sprained it, as it pained him to put weight on it.
Nico looked at his face in the mirror of the bathroom. His face was as pale as a ghosts and his long scraggly black hair was tangled and oily. Under his eyes hung large purple bags, indication of the lack of sleep he had received that night. He dropped his gaze, not wanting to see himself any longer.
He sat in the bathroom for the whole class. There was no one else in there, just him and the toilets, until the bathroom door creaked open and a boy, who Nico had never seen before walked in. He had a mop of golden curls growing from his head and sparkling blue eyes. He wore a muscle top with the words Bad Boy imprinted on and a pair of jeans. He walked into the bathroom with a huge grin on his face, which immediately fell when he saw Nico.
“Are you okay?” he asked Nico his eyes flickering all over Nico’s body. Clutching the wall Nico stood up and attempted to walk out of the bathroom, only resulting to crashing into the boy.
“I’m fine” Nico muttered reaching for the door handle. The boy grabbed his shoulder and pulled his away.
“Are you sure? Maybe you should go to the nurse’s office. Let me take you there!”
Nico wanted to go there but he couldn’t. What would Percy do to him if he let them find out about what he had done?
“Let me go” he said quietly prying the boy’s hand of his shoulder. The boy didn’t let him, instead he tightened his grip. A jolt of pain shot through his right side and he let out a small cry of pain. “Let me go!” he yelled, tears threatening to spill. The boy snatched his hand away immediately and watched as Nico ran out of the hall.
Will watched as the small frail boy ran out of the bathroom. When he had first seen him Will was shocked. His face looked like he was in pain and his eyes held no emotion. Will couldn’t even image what he had gone through, but he guessed it was something bad.I hope he talks to his parents about it he thought as he walked out of the bathroom. “Hey blondie” a voice called out. Will turned around and saw the boy with the sea green eyes and raven black hair.
“Hey Percy” he smiled fist bumping him. “What’s up?”
“Nothing really, just wondering if you had seen a small gay idiot running about?”
“Small gay idiot?” Will repeated, looking up at Percy.
“Yeah, about 5’4 foot tall, dark hair, bags under eyes.”
“I think I’ve seen him” Will replied, thinking back to the boy in the bathroom. “I was talking to him before.”
Something flashed in Percy’s eyes but Will couldn’t tell what it was. “What did he say?” he asked trying to keep an even voice.
“Nothing, I just told him he should see a nurse, his injuries looked pretty bad. Do you know him?”
Percy let out a shallow laugh. “Yeah, everyone in the school does. I would recommend that you stay away from him.”
“Why?”
Will felt a presence behind him. “He’ll try to make a move on you, like he did to Percy” another boy’s voice said. Will turned around and saw a tall blonde guy. “Hey I’m Jason” he said, sticking his hand out. Will slowly extended his hand and shook Jason’s, wary of this boy’s attitude.
“What do you mean?”
Percy rolled his eyes. “He’s gay, OBIOUSLY. That little twerp tried to kiss me.”
Jason laughed. “You mean he DID kiss you.”
Percy frowned. “Shut up” he said, shoving Jason into a wall. “NEVER mention that again!”
Jason held up his hands in surrender. “Fine, Fine, just calm down. The whole school knows anyway, one person doesn’t make a difference.”
Percy didn’t reply he just turned back to Will. “I hate him, okay? Everyone at school does, so you should to.”
Will frowned. He was really starting to dislike Percy. “I think I’ll make that decision for myself” he replied coolly before turning his head and walking away.
Percy watched as Will turned his back to him and walked away. How dare he do that? No one had ever disrespected or disobeyed him before. Narrowing his eyes at the blonde, Percy swore that if he became friends with Nico, he would kill him. Nico didn’t deserve any friends, not after what he did.
