"han, i swear to god-"

"oh, hush, jeongeun. i told you that i'm not cutting my hair!"

the youngest sibling, jeongeun, rolled her eyes with a sigh. there was no way she was getting through to him. jeonghan, on the other hand, was currently sat in front of his full-body mirror on the floor as he braided his hair to the side, leaving his side-swept bangs out of it.

after he was finally done lacing the braid together with a hair tie, the blonde tied an icy blue ribbon around the hair tie, just to add a pop of colour. once this was all done, jeonghan pulled his favourite navy blue zip-up hoodie on overtop of the plain white t-shirt he wore, which matched well with the black ripped skinny jeans and white vans he was also wearing.

his twin sister, though, was dressed like she always was. black skinny jeans, high-heeled boots, red crop top and a midnight black leather jacket to top it off. she wore her long, long red hair down after straightening it and giving it black highlights. as usual, she looked like a badass.

it was almost funny - how the younger twin sister dressed and acted dark and rebellious, while the elder twin brother dressed and acted sweet and polite. it was like they were completely unrelated. but, nope. they were twins that even shared a room.

"oh, look at my little angels!" hanlee, one of their mothers, exclaimed with pride, her eyes sparkling. "you've grown so much!" jeonghan smiled softly at her and nodded as he tucked a stray strand of his hair behind an ear, "thanks, mom. are you ready to go? mama said she'd meet us there, right?"

jeongeun threw an arm around her brother's shoulder, a smirk on her face. "yeah, it's about time we get this dork a girlfriend." the blonde shook his head and pulled away as he began to walk towards the kitchen to grab the giant thermal jug that held the hot chocolate.

in case you're wondering if they've ever attended the surak festival, considering people don't even know their names or what they look like, or even their genders, they have. although, no one knew who they were. they were just two kids who hid their faces in masks and barely showed themselves to the world. not even the way they dressed, since they would always wear oversized hoodies.

they were also homeschooled their whole lives, and only ever went outside if they were wearing masks and left through the backdoor.

but now, they could finally show up to this festival as themselves for the first time in their lives. and the twins couldn't have been more excited.

jeongeun grabbed the trays of korean honey pastries while hanlee grabbed all the other stuff they'd made, which were kept in boxes and bags. jeonghan and jeongeun slipped their masks on before leaving the house, wanting to keep their faces somewhat hidden until they got there. the three swiftly made their way through the fairly empty streets, as practically everyone was at the festival in the very centre of the village.

avoiding the eyes of people who noticed the two extra people with mrs yoon, they finally reached the festival which was about to begin and greeted chansoo, their other mother, at their giant food stall. they set all the equipment down and helped set everything up onto large plates and set out the plastic cups and cutlery.

"are you read- really?" jeonghan was about to ask his sister if she was ready to reveal herself yet, as everyone had a rough idea that they were the yoons' children, but she had already pulled it off. everyone who had been keeping an eye on the stall gasped at her beautiful face, and they could already see the perverted teenage boys licking their lips. "ugh, gross." she muttered.

her brother, on the other hand, was a lot more nervous than she was.

his wandering eyes landed on jisoo, otherwise known as joshua, at the only other food stall in the large area. a.k.a. the boy he'd barely been able to keep his eyes off of since he'd seen him for the first time. it had been from his bedroom window, by the way.

you see, hong's hobakjuk and yoon's yakwa are right across the street from each other in the busier part of the village. and both families live in the flats built on top of their restaurants. due to this, throughout the blonde's life, he's caught plenty of glimpses of the hong's only son. only child, to be exact

as a matter of fact, joshua was his gay awakening. even though he wasn't out yet.

taking a deep breath, jeonghan pulled his mask off and listened to the gasps of the people around him. he wasn't sure if they were shocked by the fact that he was a boy, or the fact that he was ugly. or maybe both. (jeONGHAN YOU ARE NOT UGLY)

he continued to help his parents out before stepping away from the stall and deciding to wander about, wondering what to do first. he could do karaoke, but that doesn't open for another hour. there was also a dj, for some reason, who was currently blasting "dancing like butterfly wings" by ateez.

of course, as he'd expected, a group of 4 girls approached him. "are you the yoon's child?" one girl asked, to which he nodded. "yep, i'm their son. my name is jeonghan," he replied with a smile feeling his nerves slowly melt away. but they quickly reappeared when another girl asked, a snotty tone to her voice, "their son? then why do you have long hair?"

he gulped, "i just like being this way."

another voice cut in before girl 3 could speak up, and it was a voice all too familiar to him. after all, he's heard this boy speak from his window plenty of times. "and what's wrong with that? i think you suit it."

jeonghan froze before turning around and smiling shyly, lowkey hating the girls' heart eyes that they were making at the boy who'd just shown up. "thank you, joshua," he mumbled, almost inaudible. he unconsciously fiddled with the blue ribbon tied in his long hair before turning back to the girls.

they scoffed and walked away, but not before winking at the brunet behind him.

once again, joshua spoke up, "so, you must be hanlee and chansoo's son." jeonghan turned back towards him, still tangling the tip of the ribbon around his fingers. "mhmm. the name's jeonghan, but i already know yours."

the brunet smiled softly and gestured for him to follow him to one of the three benches, which he did. once they sat down, quite a bit of space between them, the blonde let out a sigh of relief. "it's nice that i can finally roam around the village without a mask on, and mama said i could go to school for the last two years." joshua nodded.

"i don't get how you could live so hidden. but maybe that's just because my parents kind of show me off like a trophy, so i'm used to the attention," he replied, glancing over at the shorter boy.

jeonghan looked back with a tinge of sympathy in his eyes, "that must suck. but, hey, at least they don't force you to look for a girlfriend." joshua's eyes widened at those words, "is that what your parents are doing to you?"

the blonde shook his head sadly, "not really, but my sister insists that i find one. i don't want a girlfriend, though. i mean, she isn't dating anyone yet, so why should i?"

before they could continue their conversation, the events started beginning and they both got up to go help their parents at the food stalls. "see you around, yeah?" the brunet asked, earning a shy smile and nod from the other.

"see you around!"
