Note chapter 8 is the one with naughty erotic scenes.
Ok here it goes...
Isla wearily eyed the office door, as she slowly climbed up the stairs to the General Manager's office. Fingers crossed, she nervously straightened her name tag, the collar of her white shirt and the waist of her knee-length black skirt. With sweaty fingers she brushed her long wavy dark ponytail and hastily pushed few unruly curls behind her ears. "Appearance, poise and tact," she chanted as if reminding herself how to confront the demon of a boss.
An hour ago, a customer of their hotel, outrageously claimed that the bedsheets of his deluxe room was not changed. Apparently he had checked in a week ago and requested for the same room again. Who knew he was playing detective, investigating cleanliness and hygiene in hotels. Guess his target were some mighty names in the hotel industry.
Aqua Resort was one of the best in the small town of Ogunquit, the tallest and most expensive resort in the whole area. Isla always thought the only reason Aqua Resort survived in the small tourist less town, because it was part of the well-known chain of hotels that belonged to ALEXA Groups. Apart from the surge of visitors in the fishing season and Christmas, the resort was mostly empty other times of the year.
Currently the resort was preparing for the upcoming Fishing Competitions, a time when fishermen from various parts of the country checked in. All in all a nasty time to get negative attention in media.
Before Isla could knock the General Manager's office door, it flung open. She winced at the sight of the ugly snarl on his wrinkled face.
"About time you appeared, Isla. Explain the damn situation," he barked without preamble.
Clasping her hands, Isla stepped into the office. "Angus Brown, is a local TV presenter for a programme called Great Escapes, however, to gain more viewers, he has been investigating cleanliness of hotels. You know spraying the bedsheet on the first visit and checking it in the second visit to see if spray stains were washed off." Isla noticed general manager, John's face turn a shade darker and drop grimly.
"The sheets were clean, right?" he asked hopefully.
"Well I'm Guest Relations Manager, this is a housekeeping issue that you would need to follow," advised Isla with a tight smile. "I got involved because Angus created a scene at the front desk. I just happened to be there. But again it is part of my job to deal with pesky guests." Isla hoped that John for once would do his job with integrity. First, he hid in his office during the whole drama and second, he did not even talk to the housekeeping team. Oh why did he have to be their manager, a lame incompetent person that he was?
"What's next then?"
"Aqua Resort's image would be tainted in the next episode of Great Escapes." Isla replied bluntly.
"Did you check the sheets or not?" came his uneasy growl.
"I did. It has a faint smell of a woman's perfume."
"Oh," he groaned pacing the floor. Seconds later, John ran his hand over his silver hair, "Just when I'm thinking of doing my remaining years' of work in peace; even a small town like Ogunquit is not safe from these hungry for news TV reps." He walked towards the sofa and sat heavily on the nearest one. "Lets hope head office does not get involved or else they would fire many Aqua Resort employees."
"I hope not." What Isla hoped for was a little monitoring from John. She strongly felt he was unfit for the General Manager's position unless he took charge of running the resort. People didn't need firing, instead, a leader who could guide them.
Seeing that John was busy on his phone, Isla softly excused herself. Gosh, that went well, old John didn't bark as much as he would have, instead, the man looked worried. Serves him right.
