"Angel this gentleman said he's here to pick you up and accompany you on your way home," I told my niece. I hope she gets the inquisitive tone in my voice. From the look at her face she is surprise this handsome man is here.
"I am sorry sir, maybe Angel just forgot to mention. My name is Elmo.... I am her.."
"He's my boyfriend uncle," Angel finishes his sentence for him. I am sorry I forgot to mention it to you uncle Mar.
"Don't worry, I am happy you let me meet your boyfriend. Can you prepare some dinner for us Angel? I am sure you are familiar here," I requested politely. I like to know this person as my brother will do if he's alive.
"Thank you sir but I already ate before I came here," he politely declined.
"I insist, besides I miss my niece. Can you stay a little while?" and wink with Angelica.
"Yes uncle, I am sure your fridge is full. Let me prepare dinner for us," the tone is half-heartedly.
Our conversation goes smoothly. He is one fine man, elegant and respectful. I just think he is too old for her but it doesn't matter. I just hope to know him more because there's something in him that mystifies me. Dinner is ready. I will talk to him later.
Angelica never fails to amaze me with her chicken-pork adobo. "This is way better than your aunt's version," praising her.
"Thanks uncle, but aunt's Pochero is the best," returning the praise to my wife. "When aunt Fatima will come back?"
"Ohh she will be back maybe after next week. She's just taking care of Raphael's first baby. Raphael is busy working in Milan and his wife needs to rest. This is her third week there," I share with them. I notice that Elmo feels a little unease when I mentioned Milan. Just to break the ice, I resume talking to him.
"Elmo, please talk about your family." My question appears arrogant, 'though it's never my intention.
"Sure sir, I was raised only by my father and I have two brothers," I notice how he did not mentioned about his mother. It would be awkward to ask about his mother if he intentionally remove her from his story.
"What are your brother's names and what do they do?" I politely inquire.
"My brother Gabriel works in an international courier company, and my brother Michael works as private security for VIPs and celebrities," he is very compose but I feel his not comfortable sharing those information.
"It is strange that my niece and I were talking about Gabriel and Michael before you arrived." I offer.
"You were talking about my brothers?" he sound so concern and nervous.
"No, we were talking about angels," I explain and he looks relieve about it. Looking at my niece I swear I see a witty look in her face.
"Uncle, do you know Elmo's friends have godly names? They are Zeus, Rah and Odin," she reveals mockingly.
"Ohh, they are names of ancient gods. Zeus of Greece, Rah of Egypt and Odin of Norway. You are correct," Elmo is speechless. Maybe he is impress with me, but I doubt it. I am sure he is well educated and well informed.
"Is it possible that they are also Elohims, uncle?" she ask it to me but she's looking toward his boyfriend. For a moment there I swear I saw him illuminate, it's different... an ordinary person would blush or goes pale, but for him... he shines.
"Maybe," I reply. "Their names and stories maybe a mutated versions of Elohims. You see most of them if not all, claimed the rightful worship for themselves rather guiding them to worship Yahweh Elohim, the true God." It dawns on me now the sudden interest of Angel to this kind of topic.
I am overwhelmed. I suddenly have the urgency to protect my niece. I think she realized by now that I already grasp the situation. "Angel, I and Elmo will let you take care of the plates, we will just stay here in the dining room."
"Yes uncle Mar, I will bring the plates with me in the kitchen," she cleans the table intensely.
