After the conversation in the office, I received a phone call from Detective Bakshi. He was confused by the entire situation, he wasn't displeased with me but asked twice if I was sure it was what I wanted . In this line of business, sometimes you do what you have to and not what you want, which is what happened. He had to give the Lawson's a written notice before they were willing to give him up. I treasured those three weeks before he changed companies like they were my last days on earth.

By the time he started, I was ready for his probation period to be over. I couldn't stand him, Tess made it perfectly clear that she thought I was being too harsh on him. Tess had bribed me into hiring him based on how he would positively impact the company. He wasn't as much of a benefit as she assumed he would be, if anything it was just a nuisance to have him shadow me.

I had to get rid of him as soon as possible before my reputation was put on the line.

"Detective Callaghan," I could hear his breathing from a meter away, utterly repulsive. I had already told him my disgust for it a million times over but now wasn't the time to bring it up again. We were both sat with one of the teams out in the main office early one morning, "Are you able to go down to the lab and collect the samples?"

He looked over the rest of the group before actually looking at me, "Oh, did you not get them on your way to work?"

I shook my head, "Must have forgotten." a blatant lie.

He shut the folder in front of him and pressed together his lips, "Yeah, alright. I'll be back as soon as possible."

"No rush," I smiled to him.

I caught Harper's eye but shook my head to him slowly, waiting until Detective Callaghan was out of sight. Harper then questioned, "You got them this morning didn't you?"

Laughing, "Yes, of course I did."

"Then why send Patrick to-"

"You mean Detective Callaghan?" I corrected Harper, "I sent him out because I need half an hour without him in the office and I can't just order him to leave randomly."

Some what satisfied with my response, Harper didn't inquire any further. It was apparent to everyone, that the two of us didn't exactly see eye to eye. We were both very stubborn and both preferred to take lead when it came to work. Given that he wasn't on my level, he shouldn't have dared try to put forward his opinions in the manner that he did. He had no idea what he was doing and it was dragging everyone else and ultimately the case, behind.

I made my way over to Tess. She was at her desk, neck deep in paperwork before I got her attention. I pulled across a chair and plonked myself next to her, "So this, you know, him," I went to explain, "That pubescent teenager you made me hire. It isn't working out. So I say, we end his probation period right now."

Tess wasn't pleased with me to say the least, "He isn't a teenager Myra. Can you be professional about it if nothing else?"

I shrugged, "I meant what I said. It isn't working out. We agrue more times than we don't and he hasn't added the case whatsoever."

"He's done just as much work as everyone else here," Tess informed me.

We must have been going at one another like stray cats for at least five minutes until it became evident that not one of us would back down. Our arguments were strong but neither of us wanted to reason. Due to the fact that we would never give up, I decided that the best way to decide if he should stay or go was to ask the rest of the staff. Have a democratic vote.

"Look," I sighed, "we can argue about this as much as you want and it will lead us no where, why don't we ask the team?" I inquired.

She grinned mischievously, "Are you sure you want to do that?"
