The pressure of the wind made me sway once more as I tried to keep my balance. My gown fluttered rapidly as the thought hit me once more of how high up I was when I looked down. I could see nothing but bright lights and my fear of heights grasped my heart within its knuckles. What was I doing up here?
"You can not possibly be thinking of changing your mind right now? Are you?" I turned my head towards the voice the comment came from. Just like I was standing at the ledge of the 50 stories tall building, a woman stood to the right of me, several feet away. However, unlike me, as I swayed with nervous breaths to hold my balance, she confidently strode closer to me. She was covered in a skin-tight black material, almost making it hard to imagine how she could possible breathe. I really hoped for her sake it wasn't leather. I shook my head as my mind once again went on a tangent.
"Who are you?" I responded with a frown, focusing on her. I was truly curious as to who she was as she looked exotic in her outfit and mannerisms.
"Just a spectator," she stated as she languidly knelt on the ledge to take a seat. "I've actually been watching you for a while now. A girl who has everything to live for but who also does not want to live."
She glanced at me as her words sunk in. "Who are you?" I repeated. I was surprised by the firmness of my voice despite where I stood.
"Yara Len. 18 years of age. Family of four with one older brother, mother, and father. Currently engaged, arranged marriage. Then again, I supposed that engagement is off, is it? But most importantly Yara has a dark secret not many know. They only see the girl who seems innocent and untouched by the pollution in the world. Yet, that same girl dreams of dying every night. In fact, she's fascinated by it, the concept of death. The darkness. Yet no one can imagine such thoughts in such a bright, happy girl. Who would believe that she's tried to die several times already but has failed miserably each time? Who would have known that she had never gotten better but had only buried those thoughts till now?"
My body trembled as I felt my heart compress within me. The fist which held it had tightened its grip upon it however it was no longer because of the fear of what was below me. She knew me - knew parts of me that no one has ever known.
"So Yara will you finally succeed today or fail again as you've always had?" The stranger before me showed a smile so wicked that the last warmth in my body left and I never had felt colder.
"You want me to jump," I whispered in realization.
"Yes, I do."
