--MAXINE--
"What do you mean she's not accepting visitors?!?" I sighed and slumped over on desk in the visitor's room. Billie and I were exhausted after I dragged the both of us here with no sleep, only to find out that she doesn't want visitors.
"Max, let's just go home." Billie said, muffled through her arm. She had her head down on the table and was resting. I turned back to the nurse, and looked at her with my best pleading eyes.
"Please. I'm her girlfriend, and I-I had no way to contact her. I was out of the country-"
"Fine," The nurse sighed. "I'll let you in, but it wasn't me."
"Thank you! Come on Billie!" I pulled her by her arm but she didn't budge.
"No...I want to sleep." She groaned.
"Fine." I scoffed and walked through the two swinging doors to the patient's corridors. I went to her room and knocked on the door. The door popped open and I was greeted by Mack.
"Who is it?" I heard from inside.
"Nobody," She stepped out and closed the door. "Why are you here?"
"Well, that's my girlfriend. I'd like to see her so if you could move." I pushed her out of the way and opened the door again.
"She doesn't want to see you!" I ignored her and came to the side of her hospital bed.
"Hey baby, it's me. Maxine." I placed a hand on hers and it was cold. "Are you doing alright?"
"Maxine? I thought your trip didn't end until tomorrow."
"Well, We came home early. So i could see you."
"I'm doing fine, I just feel a bit guilty."
"Why's that?"
"I went to a party to cheat on you because you left with Billie." She looked up at me with teary eyes and I let go of her hand. I wanted to be mad, and scream, but I was in the wrong too. Plus, she was raped so it's my fault. It's my fault.
"Bye."
"No wait!" I hurried out of the room fighting the urge to collapse and cry into my arms. I could barely see through my tears when I burst into the waiting room and sat in a chair far away from anyone. I took deep breaths and wiped my eyes with tissues. I looked up and saw Billie asleep. I called an uber and shook her shoulder.
"Bil, we gotta go home."
"Is she okay?" I nodded and took her hand. "Wait, what happened?" She stopped me and wiped my face. "Is she actually okay?"
"Yeah," I sighed. "She is. But I'm not. I can't look at her without knowing I caused this. I feel,Terrible." I rested my head on her shoulder while tears flowed out of my eyes. She got me some tissues to wipe my eyes with.
"Hey, don't worry. It's not your fault."
"It is though. She felt like she needed to go out and get back at me because I left with you." I sighed. "Let's just get in the uber and go home. I'm too tired for this." It looked like she wanted to say something, but she didn't.
"Okay." She shrugged. She smiled sympathetically at me and I got in the uber, resting my head on the seat while she loaded our bags in the trunk.
...........
Once we got home I went straight to my room, and showered. I changed into my pajamas and got in my bed. I was half relieved to be back home but I was also worried for Danielle. Every thought I had somehow led back to her lying in her hospital bed. Whenever she was discharged, I'd make it up to her.
