I shrug and roll my eyes "I went down to get some stuff and tried to talk to Gabriel. no big deal" I mumble softly. I wrap my arms around Liam in a hug, I felt his hands rubbing my back. He cleared his throat "mind if I come in? We are just standing in your doorway ya know." He let go as soon as I did. I nodded and took a step back letting him in.
He looked around then sat down on my bed, pulling me into his lap "You know, I still feel bad for not being at the school that day Atilia." He mumbles softly, hugging me.
I shrugged "it's ok, it wasn't your fault." I planted a soft kiss on his nose before standing up from his lap, sitting down at the computer.I heard Liam sigh, then stand up "I've gotta go on duty ok?" He lent down, kissing me softly. I nodded lightly "please be careful" He nodded in response, walking out of my room.
I stood up, looking out of the window to The Morbid crowding the gates. I stood up, quickly grabbing my sword and my dagger belt, strapping it to my waist, I put my pistols into the holsters, putting my arm guards on. I pulled my long hair into a ponytail, pulling on my boots I opened my door tapping on every other door to warn people that The Morbid were crowding the gates. I grabbed my toxic mask from my belt, putting it on, I grabbed my lucky dagger from my side mumbling a little pray. I opened the secured door to The Outside. I quickly sprinted to the gate, driving my dagger through the skull of a Morbid. It let out an inhuman grunt before dropping. The others didn't notice, they shuffled over their fallen comrade. I kept stabbing until the others arrived. We dropped the Morbid at the gates one by one.
By the time we were done, there was a line of fallen Morbid. I pressed a red button on one of the modules, a steel wall covering our gate. I climbed into a tower, pressing a few more buttons, gasoline was poured onto the fallen, a single match was thrown onto the fallen Morbid, going up in flames. I watched until the whole line of Morbid was burnt to ash, another trail of buckets doused the flames out. I rubbed my face. We hadn't had that many at the gate before. I had noticed some uniforms in the horde so I guess the other building about five miles from us had fallen. I groaned, climbing down from the tower adjusting my toxic mask.
I pressed the same button, the steel wall lifting to show the outside. I walked back into the building, going back to my room, I walked to the sink and started to clean my dagger, the greenish red seeming to stain my sink. I dropped my dagger, pouring soap all over my sink. I grabbed a rag and started to scrub with all my strength, tears pricking my eyes. I stopped after a while, panting softly, the rag stained with the blood of The Morbid. I dropped it into a bag, throwing it away.
I looked at the clock; noon, great. I grabbed my mask and put it back on, grabbing my old army bag and my keys I walked out, locking the door into my room. I walked down the now empty corridor, meeting up with Liam near the truck. I looked at him lifting my mask "are your sensors on?" I blinked and a map showed up on my left eye.Only few people had it, The Protectors. I was one of the very few. The Protectors consisted of Me, Liam, Ashley, Ar'mon and Natalie. Today me and Liam are going outside of the walls, to look for survivors and other supplies. I punched a few numbers into a keypad, the doors drawing open. I walked out and slid my mask back on, the pesticide monitor on my sensor showing how high the level of toxins were. I slid into the passenger seat of the old Ford, waiting for Liam. He slid into the drivers seat, the truck rumbling to life. I looked in the back, making sure that the bags were still in the back. I smiled and leaned back in the seat, closing my eyes as Liam pulled out. He veered right and went onto the main road. A flash of blue went across the windshield along with a thud. I screamed and placed my hands onto the dashboard. Blood pouring down the front as Liam hit the brakes.
I took a deep breath "what was that?" I slowly peeked out of the window taking a deep breath. A strong putrid smell hit my nose, causing me to jerk my head back into the window "ugh, you hit one of them."I covered my nose, turning the air on in the truck, groaning from the stench.
Liam covered his mouth and nose, putting the truck back in drive, going down the road. Using my monitor I opened the outer gates, allowing the truck to go through.
I leaned back in the seat, closing my eyes, letting my monitor go into hibernation mode. A few seconds later I got a message from Ar'mon. I blinked and the screen came up. I tapped on the message, groaning in slight pain as the chip started to chirp before stopping. I read the message, hitting the dashboard. "We have to go back, now." I shut down the communication. I hit Liam on his shoulder "listen to me! They got in. Just a few but still enough come on"
Liam hit the breaks, turning the truck around. He grabbed his pistol from his belt, holding it as he sped back towards our home.
I fumbled with my gun, sitting out of the window on the door, holding onto the handle on the side, blinking at the coldness of the wind on my bare skin. I squinted, using the monitor to zoom in. I saw The Morbid crowding the gates. I put my gun back, grabbing my dagger from its sheath.I told Liam to slow down, climbing back into the window, grabbing the crossbow and the bag of arrows from the back. I opened the hatch in the roof of the truck, holding the crossbow up. I lined the arrow up with the back of some of The Morbids head, letting the arrow fly. I saw it drop, the others shuffling on top of the fallen body. I just stared at the crowd, frowning slightly. I fired a few more shots before grabbing my gun, firing bullets into the nearest monster.
I felt the truck speed up, dropping back into the truck I closed the hatch and closed the air vents, rolling up the windows. I gripped my gun, taking a deep breath as the truck crashed into the rotten bodies, blood, guts and body parts flying as he hit them. We got to the inner gate, activating it, we drove through, quickly shutting the gate. A few of The Morbid managed to get in but soon dropped as guns fired. I groaned dropping down low into the seat, covering my face.
I felt Liam's hand on my shoulder, squeezing it gently. I sat up, dismissing my thoughts. I brought my hands to my face, rubbing my cheeks before I opened the door slowly. The blood and guts dripped slowly off of the truck, stepping out I looked around to the people staring at me. I quickly grabbed my mask, motioning to people to theirs on. I inhaled the fresh air that was supplied through the filter, groaning. I motioned for everyone to get back inside before I turned back to the truck.
I grabbed the empty bag, jogging back to the building with Liam.
"half of them didn't have their air masks on Liam, they need to go into quarantine."
