Y/N's POV: Sparta

After being loaded up on a wounded transport I'm brought back to Sparta. My home has become a fortress in the days I've been gone. Men, women even the children contribute to the defense of Sparta.

I'm dumped in the medical ward along with the other Spartans who were wounded at Thermopylae. My body feels sore all over from the days of fighting. My eyes feel heavy from the lack of sleep.

Before I can lull myself to sleep I feel someone grab my arm. I quickly find the source of the pressure and find that Helena is by my side.

Helena: Your back.

Y/N: So it would seem.

I try to sit up but she places her hand on my chest and pushes me back down.

Helena: You need to rest.

Y/N: Rest huh...I'm tired.

Helena: I bet.

She rubs her thumb across my knuckles.

Helena: Try to sleep. We'll need you for the defense.

Y/N: Wake me when it's time.

She nods and my head rolls to the side as sleep overtakes my tired body. It's an unnerving feeling to sleep without an enemy encampment within spitting distance, threatening to kill me. A part of me is glad to be back in Sparta. And the other part of me misses combat.

Eventually I'm brought back to reality with a shake of the arm. I open my eyes and once again Helena is over me.

Helena: Get up.

Y/N: Is it time?

Helena: No. Come with me.

I nod and follow behind her. We make our way to the front gates of Sparta. All eyes are in what lays ahead as everyone gathers by the gates. They make way for Helena and I. I spot the Queen in front of everyone. Upon reaching the Queen's side my eyes land on what drew everyone's attention.

Upon a pike is the King's helmet. Blood runs down the pike yet there is no head. They dishonored our ways, our dead and our king.

Gorgo: So he has fallen.

She strides out to the pike and Helena follows suit. I stay put and watch on. The Queen picks up his helmet and presses it against her forehead. A sign of love amongst our people.

Gorgo: You have seen what the enemy has done. They will come for us next. And we will be ready.

Helena: We will begin fortifications now. Everyone must help.

The crowd disperses and begin setting up our defenses. I stare at the Queen and Princess as they silently grieve. The Queen then carries Leonidas' helmet under her arm and walks towards me.

Gorgo: You were among the wounded yes?

Y/N: Yes.

Gorgo: What are our enemies armed with?

Y/N: No armor. Blasters and mounts. They've charged headfirst into our lines time and time again.

Helena: How many?

Y/N: We barely put a dent in their forces. And Leonidas was there for 7 days. I was there for 6.

Gorgo: And their resources?

Y/N: They can outlast us if they choose to starve us out.

Gorgo: Then we will not give them the chance. We will meet the enemy upon the battlefield. No mercy.
