My alarm screeches telling me to wake up and all I want to do is fling it across my room. I don't want to get out of bed, I don't want to go to school. I know I shouldn't feel like this since it's my first day of senior year. Soon I will be graduating and be freaking out over not knowing what to do with my life but now should be the time for senior dances and prank nights and all the fun things but for some reason I don't care about any of that. But no matter how much I want to stay in bed right now I can't, I have to get up and face the music, and anyways my best friend Abby would kill me if I miss the first day of senior year, and she may be small but can be very scary.

I jump in the shower and try to push back the memories of summer, not wanting to dwell on what I can't change. I get out and I brush my long black hair and I dry it fixing the waves in my hair.

I put on black ripped jeans, a grey crop top, a denim jacket, white Adidas runners, my watch and my glasses.

I do a basic make up look and I head down stairs to see my dad in the kitchen making pancakes, my favourite

I do a basic make up look and I head down stairs to see my dad in the kitchen making pancakes, my favourite. I sit up at the high counter and I pour myself some orange juice. My dad puts a pancake down on my plate and I pour maple syrup over it .

"So are you excited for your first day of senior year," My dad asks.

"Yeah I guess," I say taking a bite.

"It will be great Hun," My dad smiles putting a pancake on a plate for him, "I booked us dinner reservations for tonight, I want to make up for this summer," my dad says with a small smile.

"Thanks dad," I say giving him a hug, "I should go I don't want to be late."

I quickly put my dishes in the sink and pour some coffee in a travel mug. I grab my backpack and I head out to my car.

"Do you need me to accompany you today Ms. Mendes?" My dad and I's bodyguard, Johannes, asks me.

"Not today Joh," I say driving down the driveway and out of the private estate I live in.

I pull up to school and everyone instantly looks at me. People smile and wave trying to get in my good books so I might invite them to some big party or something. It's all fake they don't actually want to be my friends I'm just another part of the ladder they are trying to climb and you can tell by just the way they smile.

I walk up the steps of the school, every time I walk up and down the halls it's crazy to think that this is where my parents met all because my mum got put in the wrong class and happened to be in the office on the day my dad transferred to the school. It's crazy to think if we did one thing different in our lives that they could be completely different.

I walk over to my locker and I take out my books. I hear a screech and I see Abby bolting down the hallway to me and she instantly wraps her arms around me.

"Oh my god you look great," I smile looking at her back to school outfit which consists of blue jeans, a rust cami, a white cardagin, black boots and her cute little back pack and sunglasses.

"You are so tanned," Abby says excitedly, "I missed you so much this summer."

"Me too," I say as the bell rings, " Catch up at lunch?"

"Definitely," Abby smiles before walking off to her homeroom.

Soon it's lunch and I head outside to Mine and Abby's spot which is a little table under this big tree. When I get out there Abby isn't there yet so I just sit down and read, yes I'm a bit of a bookworm. After a few minuets I see Abby with her sholder length black hair that is so curly it's ringlets and her bright ocean blue eyes run the best she can in heels over to me. Since I'm 5'9 and she's only 5'5 she always wears heels and she just likes wearing heels. She sits down beside me and whips out her lunch.

"Hola," She says with a big smile.

"Aloha," I smile, "So tell me everything about your summer."

"Well the first half I was here partying nearly every weekend and working at Tim's until my mom caught me sneaking in after Lucas' party and I was so hammered that Logan was boosting me up to my window, and then my mom walked into my room while I was half in and Logan being an asshole ran away leaving me dangling half out the window. My mom then shipped me off to Happy Valley to stay with my grandparents for the rest of the summer and she took my phone and gave me a beeper so if my grandparents or my mom needed to reach me I could use a phone box or landline so that's why I kind of dropped of the face of the Earth," Abby says.

"Sounds interesting," I laugh.

"It would have been way better if you were there or if I was with you, my parents ruined my summer first saying no to going with you to LA and then shipping me off to Happy Valley Newfoundland, I had to shower 4 times to get the smell of old people off me when I got home," Abby says.

"It couldn't have been that bad," I say.

"Oh it was my grandparents little town is full of only old people even in the shops and everything I think the youngest person was in their 50's, I spent my evenings calling out Bingo numbers, and they are all old so I had to yell and I lost my voice nearly every week," Abby says.

"Bingos fun I guess," I say trying to make her feel better but not knowing how.

"Anyway how was your summer," Abby asks.

"First part was crappy but then I met a guy," I say.

"Of course you met a guy because you got to go off to LA and I got stuck in Happy Valley, anyway what was he like?" Abby asks.

"Perfect," I say smiling, "But it didn't end in the best way," I say as the bell rings.

"Call me later and we will talk all about it, don't want to be late for gym," Abby says standing up.

"When have you ever wanted to be on time to gym?" I ask.

"Since Ryan Parker is in my gym class," Abby says, "Adios," she says running off.

I smile and laugh at how totally crazy she is. I look at the tree and I see something carved into it. I walk over and it's the initials S.M and A.J in a love heart I smile realising that this was my parents, and somehow I never thought about when my dad told me about the table they sat at and the table I sit at could, are the same table. How have I never noticed the engraving before.

The rest of the day goes by quickly and I'm excited to get home and spend time with my dad. I put my books in my locker and I wave to Abby as she walks by talking to Ryan Parker. I walk out the door of the school and my jaw drops when I see him.
