They traveled for quite a few hours until Roshan's screaming became too much for all of them.
"You gotta make it stop, I can't take it any more!!" Manny yelled.
"I've eaten things that haven't complained this much!!" Diego agreed.
"He won't stop squirming!" Sid yelled.
"You're holding him wrong!"
"Watch his head!"
"Just put him down!!" Savage Fire yelled above the commotion. Sid placed him on a rock and started cooing to him. Diego mentioned something about his nose being dry and someone should lick it. She groaned. She was traveling with a bunch of children.
"Hey he's wearing one of those diper thingies!" Manny said. "So if he goes where does it go?" Sid retracted his tongue and held him at arms length.
"Humans are disgusting." He declared.
"Yeah tell me about it." Savage Fire mumbled and Diego nodded in agreement.
"Ok you, check for poop." Manny ordered Sid.
"Hey why am I the poop checker?" He asked indignantly.
"Because returning the kid was your idea. Because you're small and insignificant and because I'll pummel you if you don't." Manny threatened, towering over Sid and getting closer to him with a clenched trunk with every reason. Sid reluctantly checked and made a show of it stinking. Savage Fire smirked. If she wasn't enjoying herself so much, she would've told Sid not to bother. The baby hadn't gone. If he had she would've picked up on it in an instant. Her nose was way too sharp to miss a smell like that. Sid waved the bunched up cloth around, nearly hitting Diego and Manny, who screamed at him to watch it and stop waving it around. Sid pretended to slip and the clean cloth went falling onto Manny's face. Manny hit Sid over the head, which caused Roshan to giggle but then start crying again when he returned to normal.
"Hey do that again. He likes it." She said. Manny repeated the process and then so did Diego. Savage Fire has to admit, this was an interesting group she had allowed herself to get drug into. They could be quite amusing. The baby's tummy growled and Sid snapped his fingers.
"I'll bet he's hungry."
"How about some milk?" Manny suggested.
"Oooh I'd love some!" Sid said.
"Not you, the baby!!" Diego yelled.
"Well I ain't exactly livin easy here pal!" Sid came back at him.
"You're a little low on the food chain to be mouthing off at..."
"ENOUGH!!!" Manny shouted, his yell echoing in the canyon. A melon fell out of a bush and then just as they grabbed it a Dodo grabbed it back and squawked at them. They followed the dodo which lead to three melons, a flock of very protective dodos and Sid engaging in a football fight to retrieve a melon for Roshan to eat. By the time they were done with all of that, Savage Fire was exhausted, thoroughly amused and contented that the baby was now fed. When they finally bed down for the night she made her way to the top of the ridge the group was under and laid down. She was very tired but she'd sleep later. She was taking it upon herself to protect this group since nobody seemed to care about safety. She considered that. No one seemed very concerned for each other. She knew that without a doubt in her mind she would give her life to save any of these mammals, but that was just part of her instincts as a wolf and as an alpha. She protected the pack, no matter what the cost. At the moment this felt very much like a pack. Everybody looked after themselves and didn't care what happened to anybody else. She was damn sick of it. She wanted to be with animals that actually protected one another, that had each other's backs. She snorted and rested her head on her paws. That wasn't likely to happen with this group. She heard a rustling and her attention shot to a bush a little ways away on a hill. The rustling stopped and she sniffed the air. She didn't smell anything unusual. It was probably just a rabbit or something. At the moment though, she was so tired she forgot that she was downwind of that area of the ground.
The next morning she awoke to a commotion below her. Manny and Diego were nose to nose. She jumped down from her perch and ran over.
"What happened?" She asked. They both turned to her and asked harshly where the baby was. Her eyes grew wide and she snarled.
"You mean you lost it?!?!" Suddenly realization all dawned in their eyes.
"SID!!!" They shouted.
