Two weeks later, life was going great. I'd managed not to make any friends other than Sam, and no one bothered me. I was just the quiet girl in class who minded her own business and didn't talk much.
I was just heading out for break when my peace of mind was broken.
"Alright shorty, listen here." It was my least favourite jerk, Jackson, he strutted up to me and gave a winning smile, "I get that you're intimidated by me, but I really like you. Maybe we could hang out sometime? Friday night, just you and me."
Was he crazy!? "Um, no thanks Jackson."
"Come on, I know you like me."
He was sorta freaking me out now, he stepped forward threateningly, as though if I refused he'd make me regret it.
"Kay, leave me alone Jackson, I'm not going out with you, not Friday, not ever."
Jackson growled at me angrily, "No, Ave you're going out with me or else I'll pound your dorky friend's face into the ground!"
Would he actually do that? Weren't they related? I was totally trapped.
"Hey, if it isn't the walrus."
Some.........guy was waltzing up to us, looking all confident and totally annoying. He was tall and had wavy blond hair that moved in a mesmerizing way- not that it mattered.
" Is there any trouble over her that I need to take care of?"
"Get outta here, worm. This ain't any of your business"
"Or you could leave. If you do I won't tell Ms. Henderson what you did to that chess kid."
Jackson didn't look very impressed, but just then the buzzer went. He gave me one more evil stare and then ran off into the building.
I hurried off to my chemistry class with the blond dude still on my tail.
"Hey wait up, when a guy saves you from a bully you're supposed to talk after."
I spun around, "Excuse me!"
"Um, I mean that's how it works for all the other guys."
"I am no prize to be won, worm, now leave me alone, I have chemistry."
I marched off and the guy yelled at my retreating back.
"I'm Nick by the way!"
Pfft. Like I cared what his name was. I'd probably never see his perfect face again, which was fine by me.
