Mrs. Lancaster had a secret. A few days before going to Amsterdam, she was diagnosed with lung cancer, just like Hazel. But she didn't want to crush Hazel's dreams, so she didn't tell anyone about the cancer and went to Amsterdam. She had constant trouble breathing in Amsterdam, but she hid that well. She somewhat enjoyed Amsterdam, but she was still quite upset about her cancer. After all, it was bad enough that Hazel had cancer, and now Hazel's mother did too. On the plane ride home, Mrs. Lancaster was feeling very sick. When the plane landed in her town, she walked off the plane dizzily. She spotted her husband and walked towards him, arms outstretched. But just as she was about to reach him, she collapsed. And she never woke up again.
