Its morning. Im stepping out of the car and bringing the last of my things up. I look at the apartment building, its two storey "U" shaped infrastructure, a new one at that. Its got 21 apartments and im the only second tenant to occupy the second floor. Its got metal railings facing inwards so door by door you see across the neighbors. My dad went to check in with the land lord, I just went straight up and enter my apartment. Room 204, this is where my life living independently begins. I open the door, i notice the bathroom door in my right, and I continue , its a studio type room with a closet and counter tops and a stove in the left side of the room. My stuff, which isn't much, arrived first and are put neatly in the center of the room. I noticed the morning sun through the glass slide door that leads to the balcony. The sunshine reaches my face, and I close my eyes to feel the heat. The door behind opens and i hear my dad mumble somthing.
"Well thats, that. I hope you're settled up. I've talked to the land lord in keeping an eye out on you from time to time" he says
"What do you mean keep an eye on me? Its not like im gonna be bringing girls here often or have shady persons come here" i reply
"Oh please, i wish that were the case. Im talking about your habit where you stay in your room for days not getting any air and sunshine. They might find you rotting sometime after a few weeks here"
"Okay dad no need to attack my feelings"
"Well i should head home."
I escort him down to his car. As he sits, he gives off a small sigh, and looks at me
"And Rei,Goodluck out here" he says
"Thanks dad, tell mom I'll be fine here" i say
He then starts the car and heads off. I stand there for a bit. I guess i wont be seeing them a while. Our house is around a day or so of travel from here.
Suddenly a small baseball hit my arms. I jerk a little from the pain. I turn around to see where it came from and I see a kid signaling me to throw the ball to him. I grabbed it and put a small effort to throw it back. It reached halfway, and he had to picked it up himself.
"Youre a zombie" he yelled at me
Ouch. Its the first time i got called out like that. He then ran into their room. I guess he is a son of one of the tenants. I just realized im in a whole new place where people have their own set of, social attitudes. I guess its normal to hear something like that hear? Well i get back to my apartment and start to unpack. I put all my clothes and some of the stuff in the closet. The kitchenwares i put under the countertop cabinets. I notice the bank book in the end table. I picked it up and see the balance is at a million. Wow. I guess this is all the last of the allowance im ever gonna get from my parents. Im even fortunate to get this much. The business has been going well for them these past few years so i should be thankful. I spend the rest of the morning just unpacking. And setting up the place. Around noon i head out to find some place to eat. Just a few blocks is a convenience store. Its a nice spot. I can easily buy things i need. If i think about it, im pretty lucky considering im not too far into the downtown of the city and not too inside the suburbs. Just a bit in the middle. Most houses ive come seen around are pretty decent so overall its nice. I dont like shady places since I never know what kind of character might approach me. After a 15 minute walk im already seeing commercial buildings. I notice a fastfood restaurant at a corner, so i decided to eat there. I ordered a medium meal and a take out for my dinner so i dont have to buy later. Looking by the window while eating, i notice a cafe across the street. Its named The Flower Garden. Make sense since the place is full of flowers outside, and maybe in the inside. It got my interest since my mom loves flowers, so she had her own flower garden in our yard. Maybe I'll take her there when she comes to visit. After eating I start heading back to my apartment. On the way home i made a little stop by the grocery to buy some essentials, like toothpaste soap shampoos and the like. As I was walking by the stairs to the second floor someone called from behind me. Im a bit surprised and turned around. Its a woman. Judging from her looks she's in her mid 40's.
"You're the young man that moved in this morning right?" She asks
"Uh, yes, yes"
"My name is Christine Adams, you can call me Christy. "
"Ah, nice to meet you, I'm Rei kenji Harris"
"I'm really sorry about this morning"
"Uh. This morning?" I asked confused
"My son Justin, hit you with his baseball and shouted at you" she answered
"Ah its fine. It didnt really hurt so its all good"
"Are you sure? Well if you need any help, you can call me or my husband on apartment 102"
"Sure, thanks, I really appreciate it"
She seems nice. If i trust my instincts about her, she might be like a mother of the neighborhood. Her son though im a little worried about. So far they're the only neighbors ive seen around. I continued walking upstairs and into the apartment. At this time, i should start. I open up my laptop, whipped up so hot beverage, and i stretched a bit and I sit down in my computer chair, and started to think. This is it. My path to becoming a novelist starts now.
I have been thinking of writing a love story for a while now. I've been writing short stories but most of them got considered as childrens stories. So this time i wanna make something with impact. Something to look forward to. A romance so good even upto the little details. A story where people who will read it will dream about their destined person. And if they dont believe in destiny im going to make them believe. Im going to write the perfect love story.
