After School
Ren put away his books and notes inside his locker and stretched his arms. I'm pooped. He let out a yawn and closed his locker. Good thing the Sensei didn't give much homework, or else I wouldn't have time to train. He proceeded down the hall to the exit. He noticed a group of girls near the exit.
"So what're you gonna do? Use that katana on me? HA! You probably don't have the guts to, you two-color-eyed freak!" taunted one of the girls. Hang on, different colored eyes and a katana- Kitamura Ai! Ren approached the group stealthily, he observed them. The girl with silver hair, Kitamura, was leaning against a wall while two girls cornered her. She was clutching her katana behind her back, looking down. Isn't this bullying?
"Please, just leave me alone." replied Kitamura nonchalantly. One of the bullies, approached her and sneered.
"You're ugly and weird, those two colored eyes of yours are so creepy! It's probably the reason why your father-" The bully didn't get to finish before Ren stepped in.
"That's enough!" shouted Ren angrily. "So she has different colored eyes, that doesn't make her ugly! What's ugly is your belief that something so unique is disgusting." The bullies stared at him in shock. Kitamura glanced at him, he noticed a glint of hope in her eyes.
"Why is there a boy here?" asked one bully to the other, their attention swayed from Kitamura.
"Beats me." replied the other, glancing at him. "Let's get out of here." The bully who had spoken smiled mysteriously at him, and gestured her friend to exit. When the other was out of view, she turned to Ren. The bully had golden eyes, ones that made him felt like he could drown in them when he looked into them. Her short black hair was tied in a ponytail behind her. She was wearing the same uniform as Kitamura, meaning she was a upperclassman.
"Hey pretty boy, what's with that scar on your face? You a gangster or something?" asked the bully. He couldn't tell whether she's mocking him or not.
"Well, catch you later, pretty boy." The girl winked at him and left, leaving Ren and Kitamura alone. What's with this girl?
"Senpai, are you alright?" asked Ren, turning to Kitamura.
"I'm fine, thanks- uhm what's your name?" replied Kitamura as she walked up to him.
"Nishikawa Ren. We've met before." answered Ren. "In the hallway earlier today."
"Yes, I remember." said Kitamura. "Well, thank you, Nishikawa, and goodbye." The girl turned to leave.
"By the way, senpai." added Ren. "I think your eyes are really cool. Don't listen to what they say." Kitamura paused, with her back towards him. After a minute, she turned to him and came up right next to him. She moved her mouth his ear, startling him.
"That's the first time anyone ever complimented my eyes." she whispered. "Thank you, Nishikawa-kun, I'll remember this." At that, she walked away. Where did that "-kun" come from? Ren put his hands into his pants pockets and left the school building. The wind blew the sakura petals into the air, cascading them past him as he walked to his dorm. She was so close to me.. Do the girls here have no sense of personal space? Ren blushed thinking back on the incidents that had occured that day. When he finally reached his dorm, he noticed the lights were turned on and the door was ajar. A burglar? He cautiously opened door, peeking inside. He found Mayuzumi-san sitting on the couch, waiting for him. Seriously- again?
"Mayuzumi-san," asked Ren, entering, "What're you doing here?"
"Came in to check on my future son-in-law." replied the chairwoman, chuckling. That made him nervous, especially because of what had happened during lunch.
"There's nothing going on between me and the kaichou!" exclaimed Ren, flustered.
"That's a lie." proclaimed Mayuzumi-san as Ren sat down across from her. "I saw how my daughter looked when she was going home, her face was so red! I knew it had to be because of you." He sighed and slumped down against the cushions.
"Fine- I'm the one who made her flustered. But there's nothing between us, we're just acquaintances." confessed Ren. She chuckled again, then suddenly her expression became serious.
"I'll cut to the chase," The chairwoman pulled out a folder with paper in it, the folder read: Enrolling Students. "While I was looking through the enrollment list for the next trimester, I realized that one of the enrollees is a VIP." She opened the folder and flipped through the sheets, stopping after she found what she was looking for. "Take a look, does she look familiar?" Ren took the file from Mayuzumi-san and read it.
"Erin Murphy.. Isn't she the daughter of the CEO of that Irish company, M Inc.? Why would he send his daughter to Japan?" asked Ren after he read the name. He poured some water and sipped on it while listening. He looked at the photo provided. She's really pretty. Ren held back his blush then turned to listen.
"Apparently, there were some underground operations that led to some complications in Europe." explained Mayuzumi-san. "Some mafia group sent multiple death threats to the daughter, so Murphy-san is sending her to Japan for safety. And now we're getting to the point." Gangs? Mafia? This sounds serious. "I've chosen you to be her bodyguard when she transfers here."
"WAIT WHAT?!" Ren spewed out the water he had be drinking. "I'm not even qualified to be a bodyguard, let alone the bodyguard of the heir of M Inc.!"
"What do you mean?" laughed the chairwoman. "You've received almost 10 years of military training from your grandfather. And your father was a S-class assassin. You won't have a-"
"My father- You mean my biological father?" interrupted Ren, standing up. "He was a top class assassin?!"
"Oh-" Suddenly the talkative woman became quiet. "I've said something that I shouldn't have." Mayuzumi-san stowed the files back into her bag and stood up. "Just protect her, alright?"
"Alright." sighed Ren. What was that about? What does my father have anything to do with this? At that, the chairwoman left. Something's fishy about this. Ren yawned, it was getting late. I still have school so I better do my homework. He took a quick shower and started to do his homework. This bodyguard job is outta be dangerous. Good thing I took my handgun with me just in case. Ren glanced at his luggage where his firearm is stored. How did it even pass the screening? Hopefully I won't ever have to use it.
