Amelia Greene -
August 20th feels like one of those days where the only thing in the air in anticipation.
Daniels voices it while he, Zussman, and I unload a truck full of supplies. Beads of sweat drip down our foreheads, both annoying and refreshing us.
"Something big's happening," He concludes, looking past the truck. Zussman takes another box down, following his eyes.
"Gotta be, Davis is here." He's right, and he's walking with Turner and Pierson. A still remarkably fit man for his age.
We can't hear anything they say. And we have to continue working so we don't try to read their lips, we'll find it all out soon enough.
That is, until, there's the honking of horns. Jeeps pull into the base, and I'm pleasantly surprised to see that Crowley's back.
I haven't seen him since . . before Normandy? I don't know exactly, but wow, it's been a while. He's with Vivian, I've only met her twice before. But with the S.O.E here, British Special Forces, our suspicions are confirmed. Something big is happening.
Vivians have always been a mystery to me. She's one of the only other females in combat, and somehow, she struts around like she's not the odd one out.
I don't understand how she can be so confident. Maybe a little cocky, even, but that's not a fatal flaw. She knows who exactly she is and what she wants and she'll do anything to get it.
I, on the other hand, have no clue. I know I want to prove myself but there's never a clear cut answer on how I can achieve that. Her walk itself holds a power that I can only dream to achieve.
We're now just outside of Argentan, a city right outside of Paris, trying to stop a train from refueling.
It's dangerous - we're attacking a German base. That means there's no idea how many Krauts are around here and what kind of weapons they'll have on hand. But we have to, for the sake of Paris. Taking Paris turns the tides.
We have to sneak down this hill and the base is to the left, which I think was a small home or two at one point. Most of the world seemed overrun, by now.
"Reminds me of that time we parachuted into Vercors. Ambushed that Gestapo patrol," Vivian says back to Crowley as Turner and Pierson slide past her.
"You're just an old romantic," Crowley replies. I look around, there's no one in sight just yet.
Then, a whistle. The train's smoke billows above it as it weaves through the tracks, heading straight to the reloading zone. It's huge, and I can see the armor from here.
"Alright," Crowley continues, "there's our target." I let out a breath if we don't contain it whilst it's parked, it's going to be a hell of a struggle.
Pierson glances at his watch, "Hey, gotta give those Krauts some credit. Trains right on time." I chuckle lightly, he's correct, right on the hour.
"Biggest train I've ever seen," Daniels comments, "thickest armor too."
"It's a Panzerzug," Vivian explains to the group. "Those V2's have a range of two-hundred miles. More than enough to hit Paris. We can't let it reach the launch site." I wonder what Vivian's accent is, sounds like Geordie.
"Shh," Pierson's sudden shushing makes us all go on edge. A truck pulls up with two men flanking it, "enemy movement up ahead."
Crowley turns to the group, "alright, Vivian and I will take them out. Turner, that will be your signal to advance." Turner nods and then stands.
