flashback:
You laid on your bed and looked up to the ceiling. You could feel your phone vibrating beside you but you had no care about it. They were probably just birthday greetings made through instagram stories by people who knew nothing about you and never even bothered to get to know you.
Your parents were busy fighting once more and you could hear their muffled screams and mentions of your name. You couldn't help but cry. They forgot it was your birthday.
A birthday is nothing special. It's just another day and it just so happens that you were born on that day. But did they really hate you that much that they couldn't even greet you? That they couldn't even stop fighting for a mere 24 hours for your peace of mind?
You couldn't help but feel tears forming in your eyes as you laid on your stomach to conceal the sounds of your sobs. The screams from your parents finally died down.
"They probably left to cool off somewhere," You thought to yourself.
Suddenly, you heard a knock on your door. You were greeted by the sight of none other than Oikawa, your friend.
"You weren't answering my texts so I went here myself." He says, taking his hoodie off and setting his stuff onto your bedside table.
"I also heard your parents fighting outside so I had to do something to make them stop. I thought 'why not come in to make them shut up?'," He says, trying to lighten the mood but you avoided his gaze.
"Hey, birthday girl. Why aren't you looking at me?" He says as he pulls your limp body to face him. Your face that was full of tears and sweat was revealed to him. He could feel so much sadness in you just by looking at you that he could feel himself tearing up at the sight of you.
He sits down on your bed and picks you up so your body would be rested on him. He picks your head up and rests it on his chest whilst caressing your hair and face. He would plant small kisses on your head here and there until finally, your sobbing calmed down.
"I promise that on your next birthday, you will only smile."
end of flashback
You woke up to see your alarm clock ringing like crazy. You realized what day it was. You got relieved as you didn't hear any screams today. You still haven't gotten used to living alone in a small apartment yet. Free from your parents trying to kill each other.
Oikawa actually suggested that you would move houses and he even intentionally picked one that was really close to his. He would usually come over to watch shows or to just pester you with questions you could never comprehend.
"Do you think soulmates exist?"
"What if...
Listen to me ok...
We aren't real! And we're just being controlled by aliens!"
"Have you ever tried testing if you have powers? You know there are so many articles about about people with superpowers actually existing!"
You were cut out of your thoughts once you heard your phone beep. You look over to see Oikawa's message.
"Good Morning !!!!! Happy Birthday !!!!! I hope you're doing well. I know I said that we were supposed to go home from the training camp this morning but it got extended upto tonight :( I don't think I'll be seeing you in school :((( BUT !!! check your locker ;) I have a surprise for you."
You read the message and smile. He really is so sweet when it comes to these things. As soon as you got there, you do as he asked and made your way to your locker. You opened it to see a jar full of tiny colorful papers. Attached to the jar is a small piece of paper.
