Sorry guys for the late update, I had exams and a little bit of a writer's block but I am back and ready to roll.
______
I was walking to school today, since it was such a nice crisp, end of summer type of day. I kicked at the leaves that had fallen on the ground and laughed when one landed on my hijab. Damn I'd make a good soccer player. It was my kind of day, apart from the weird dream I had I was pretty confident that life could not get better. I started to cross the road, about fifty metres from me was the pedestrian crossing but being the rebellious teenager that I am, I crossed the first of the road and stood on the island to be safe as there were too many fast cars rushing as if the day of judgment had arrived. I waited, and suddenly I heard a deep voice frantically saying;
"No! Hamza come back, NO!!!"
I whirled to my right and hurriedly stepped off the island, a toddler began to run across to the other half of the street and it was one of the moments that so many things are happening so fast that you see them in slow motion.
As I reached the toddler, I realized his body was on the right and mine on the left, and a car with loud booming music was rushing towards us, mainly towards the toddler, in a rush, wth the only thought in my head that 'No, he is so not dying in front of me', I harshly yanked him over onto the other side of me which left me in his place.
BAM!
The car tried to desperately brake, but it was too late. It crashed into me and I was thrown a good twenty metres away from the car. My body plonked on the unforgiving dark road and my head smashed the floor. Pain exploded around my skull and my entire body. I could see stars. 'Oh Allah' I whispered and the darkness enveloped me.
Ali (Sarah's Brother) POV
Ring! Ring! Ring!
Darn this phone, I thought I had it on silent mode. The professor stops and looks over towards me disapprovingly, I look on the screen and see that it is Sarah.
'Gosh what does she want at this time?' I think to myself. I am debating whether to disconnect the call when Hamid, a Pakistani student exchange nudges me and says;
'Dude, pick it up, family comes first'
I don't even want to know how he knows Sarah is my sister. That bastard, the only thing stopping me from interrogating him prison style was because I knew he had his eyes on another girl. Ha! Good luck buddy.
"Sarah?"
"Hello is this Mr Ali?"
A strangers voice. A man. Shit. What the hell happened. A thousand different possibilities ran through my head.
"Yes, yes, I am who are you?"
"I am Stan from St John's, I am an ambulance officer. Your sister Sarah Khan has been in an accident. She has been hit by a car and is a unconscious state. If you could make--"
"WHAT? where is she? Ya Allah" My hear furiously beat against my chest.
"...she is by her school if you could come over."
"I am coming over, don't worry I am coming"
Everybody in the lecture theatre was staring at me, but I didn't care, I pushed my through the chairs and hurried towards my car. My baby sister. whispering 'Ya Allah' over and over again I drove, lucky the the school was not far from my University, but it was one of those rides that never seemed to end. But somehow it did. I parked my car and didn't even bother to close the door as I rushed over to the crowd of people gathered in the middle of the road.
I pushed people aside and I saw two ambulance officers kneeling close to a crumpled figure.
The crumpled figure was my sister. My heart exploded in the moment I saw, eyes closed, face pale and there was no blood.
Shit there was not blood. This was bad, this was so so so bad.
A teenage guy and a kid was kneeling over too, the guy was continuously asking the officers;
'Is she going to be OK?"
They ignored him and they kept on putting needles in her, preparing to move her in the ambulance.
"Is she OK?" I asked.
The officers and the guy looked up at me.
"I'm Ali, Sarah's brother." I informed
"Well we are just going to move her now, so before we tell the details I am going to have to ask you to be patient, please step aside."
"But--" I protested
"Sorry Mr, we know you are worried but either we tell you or try to save your sisters life."
Save her life. Was it that bad? Allah oh Allah help me, I will give up anything else you want but not my sister. Please, please let her be alive. Let her live to be a ripe old age, oh Allah please. I prayed silently.
"Ya Allah save her" a voice to my right said. The teenage guy who was staring at Sarah as if she was a his lifeline.
"Who are you?" I demanded, the big brother defensive instincts kicking in.
He tore his gaze away from Sarah who was now being loaded into the ambulance.
"I'm Omar, and your sister just saved my brothers life."
