Her heart was pounding. She was sure she had seen the doorknob turn. It was a simple movement, her eyes could have been playing tricks on her. Maybe she was hallucinating, she didn't remember inviting anyone over. It turned again. This time she was sure that she saw it. She couldn't move. She couldn't speak. She was paralyzed with fear. This was the end. As she sat on the couch she stared at the golden doorknob. Was it her parents? No, it couldn't be her parents, they had to work for almost the whole day. She couldn't move. She couldn't speak. She was paralyzed, her eyes opened wide. Maybe my parents decided to stop by to surprise me and my sister, she thought.

Upstairs, her sister had stopped talking to Buddy - our family dog - upstairs. Then she heard a muffled scream. It sounded like her sister. I am supposed to be brave. Selia thought, determined. Selia got up, turned around and rushed up the stairs. She only made it halfway up when she heard a door creak open.

Was it the upstairs door to her sister's room? Or was it the front door? Selia couldn't tell and didn't want to get caught by either. She stood there not knowing what to do while her confidence melted away. She didn't have much time to think of a plan because she heard another door creak open and it didn't matter which way she went now. They had cornered her. She was trapped. She was frozen with fear. Before she could turn around to look, cold hands seized her and covered her mouth and eyes with a cold wet cloth that was sticky and smelled sweet. A sedative! Selia realized. Then Selia blacked out, and the darkness of her thoughts consumed her whole.
