Today is the day before Grant's twelfth birthday, he is currently training in the Nikos family's personal gym by hitting a punching bag. Suddenly Grant hears footsteps from the stairs at the other end of the room, his little sister Pyrrha steps into the room.

Pyrrha: Hey bro want a partner?

Grant: Sure, gloves or no gloves?

Pyrrha: Are you kidding, I don't need gloves anymore since I have an aura now.

Grant thought about it for a few seconds before jumping into the ring. Pyrrha followed him and readied her stance. Grant charged at Pyrrha using his strength and height to his advantage by forcing her to the wall using his reach with multiple jabs and hooks, landing a few on her face and abdomen. But Pyrrha managed to roll behind him twisting his legs in hers and tripping him, causing Grant to slam his head into the ground. Getting up Pyrrha readies a kick before Grant catches her leg and swings her head first into the corner post breaking her fragile aura. Grant stopped immediately noticing her broken aura and his sister holding her head.

Grant: Crap sorry sis I guess I got carried away.

Pyrrha: It's ok, I shouldn't have thrown that kick while you were down anyways.

Grant helps up his sister while she is still holding her head, she's fine but is definitely done training for the day. But their mother walks in and sees Pyrrha holding her head.

Mother: What happened!

Grant: We were training.

Mother: You know that Pyrrha has a match tomorrow right?! What if you had seriously injured her and she had to forfeit, we'd be the laughing stock of Argus.

Pyrrha: Mom it's fine, I should have noticed my aura getting weaker. Just shows I need to pay more attention.

Mother: No it shows that your brother here needs to be more careful and not the meathead he is.

Grant: What? It was a total accident and she even asked not to use gloves. This is hardly my fault!

Mother: That's it get out of here and stay in your room. No dinner tonight and we won't do anything for your birthday due to your back talk.

Pyrrha: Mother that is hardly fair, it's my fault.

Mother: Shush Pyrrha, don't let the deranged mind of your brother corrupt you. Now go to your room Grant.

Grant walked away after slamming his fist into the already cracked wall from years of use and put a crater in it. Walking up to his room Grant proceeded to cry in his bedroom, wondering why he was cursed with his hair and why it even mattered. He'd do anything to earn his parents respect but no opportunities ever came up. They wouldn't let him compete in local tournaments because of his hair, they wouldn't even let him dye his hair to at least try.

Grant decided to sneak out to his Uncle Ivan's house because these days it was the only place that didn't make him feel like he was a failure. Opening up his window silently knowing that his parents will not bother checking up on him, Grant climbs down the side of his house careful to avoid the multiple security cameras around the property. Grant eventually makes it to Ivan's house. Knocking on the door he listens to footsteps steadily making their way to the front door. Once the door opens the older man wearing a leather jacket and jeans with beard looks down at the boy before his eyes widen.

Ivan: My boy! What brings you here, do your parents know that your here?

Grant looks around before shaking his head. Ivan sighs and realizes why the boy was at his doorstep.

Ivan: Come on son, I was just getting dinner ready. Tell me all about what happened.

Grant hurried in taking a seat at the table while Ivan grabbed bowls for soup. Looking around Grant wondered why Ivan never bothered becoming a huntsman, he had the hair and was a very talented fighter. Yet he decided to join the police force at Argus and protect the city. A noble move, but the more Grant thought about it the more it didn't make sense.

Grant: Hey, Ivan

Ivan: What's up, Kid

Grant: Why did you decide to not be a huntsman? Considering you actually got the hair and your a phenomenal fighter.

Ivan: What very few people understand is that being a huntsman is not the only way to help people. Huntsman would be nothing without the miners that dig dust out of the ground which they do heavily rely on most of the time, or even the engineers that design our very homes. I decided that instead of going freelance, why not give my skills to a city and help protect it? I personally feel that I've helped a lot more people in Argus than most huntsman have in their lifetimes. Now tell me what happened.

Grant told Ivan about what happened, occasionally taking a break to take a spoonful of Ivan's delicious soup. Ivan simply stared at his own bowl while shaking his head listening to the treatment his own sister was giving his nephew.

Ivan: Kid, I think the only way to prove to them that you want respect is to show it. You need to do something that demands the respect of your family. You may be young but your a very smart kid, I'm sure you can think of something.

Looking at the clock on his wall Ivan notices that it was nearly 12:00 AM. Shocked at how fast time had gone by Ivan waits for Grant to finish his much needed dinner before sending him home, but right before Grant walked out the door Ivan stopped him.

Ivan: Grant, you'll get through this kid. Once you get to an academy you'll be able to prove yourself at the Vytal Festival and you'll be able to prove to your parents that your worth something. Oh and I also have something for you, it was the mask of a child thief we caught a few years ago, it's pretty sick and I think you'd like it. Just don't get in any trouble with it.

Grant: oh sweet ok!

Grant started to walk home before passing by a news station that was displaying the footage of a bank that a group lead by the notorious Roman Torchwick had just robbed. Passing by it Grant eventually made it home while thinking about what his uncle had told him, about doing something that demanded the respect of his family. That's when it hit him, he'd take down Torchwick and prove he was a capable worrier and become a hero of the city by taking down the criminal that had been terrorizing the town for the past few months. Looking over at his uniform hanging up in his closest, Grant decided what he would do. Grant grabbed his uniform and put on the mask Ivan gave him. Leaving out his bedroom window Grant went to the last known location of Torchwick's men that was displayed on the news.

Eventually Grant found himself standing above a group of men all marked with Roman's signature patch. Looking down on them while looking for Torchwick, he plans his attack on the criminal gang
