Firestar continued on. "We found this cat in the middle of the territory. She refused to answer anyone's questions except for mine."
A lone mew sounded from the crowd. "And what did she say?" It was Mousefur. "I was comfortable in my nest, so I hope this was important!"
Firestar nodded. "It was. She says that she is from StarClan."
Thornclaw burst out. "That's a load of mouse dung! And I suppose she said she rides flying hedgehogs, too!"
"No."
Leafpool was startled by her own mew. All of ThunderClan turned to look at her and fell silent- except for Thornclaw, who was muttering under his breath. She continued, looking only at Firestar. "I had... a dream. Of this kit."
The ThunderClan leader stared at her. "Why didn't you say anything?"
"I ... I didn't know what it meant, so I thought... I thought I would try to figure it out first, before I bothered you with it."
Slowly, the fiery- pelted tom nodded. "Okay," he meowed. "Continue."
Leafpool took a deep breath. "Spottedleaf stood beside this kit. She told me that this was a kit that must be taken in by us. And in the end, the kit... shimmered and vanished into starlight, along with Spottedleaf."
She paused, letting it sink in. She glanced at Thornclaw, but the golden-brown tabby was silent. Turning back to Firestar, she added, "I have also decided to take her in. I will mentor her, but she must go with a warrior, too. Spottedleaf told me she was to be a warrior."
After a moment, Firestar spoke. "Did you learn her name?
Before the medicine cat could answer, the silver cat mewed, "My name is Moonkit. And just because I'm a couple of moons old doesn't mean I don't get offended!" She pinned Thornclaw down with her icy glare. "I was sent from StarClan. I have seen things and know things most senior warriors can never imagine!" She waited for someone to call out again, but all was silent.
