Nicki was a hormonal disaster, her brain and her body at war with each other, and she was pretty sure her stupid heart was always getting involved. Maybe a teeny tiny little bit.

"You're joking."

"Nope. There really is a new Star War's out. Rogue One—Google it. Where have you been?"

Genuinely believing that she was pulling her leg, she went to check the box office, and there it was—Rogue One, on the hour at just about every hour.

"Dammit! And there's something from Harry Potter's World, too!"

"I overwork you way too much," Beyoncé swore solemnly. "Well, that's it. Blue, you, and I will go check out this movie tonight," she said. "After ballet, of course."

She loved how she remembered the day of her kid's ballet class.

"They've broken up until January now—we can go early," she replied, before it hit her that she'd asked her out on a date.

A date—with her kid. She wasn't sure that counted. Maybe they were just hanging out. Body, brain, heart—they all had their piece to say about that. She shut them up and just added, "I'm really looking forward to it."

Beyoncé smiled easily.

"And you are leaving tommorow after work," she checked.

"You would know," she rolled her eyes, "You  bought the tickets."

They were catching a plane to Seattle and another one to Fairbanks, arriving close to midnight. She'd call the airport, and they'd assured her that there would be plenty of taxis  around the time when the plane landed—even that late.

"Thanks again—Blue hasn't shut up about it."

"I know."

Blue had spent the afternoon with them on Tuesday, and she might have spent a whole two hours telling her about her plans to see Father Christmas, and saying that she was the coolest Ebenezer ever.

The silence following the smile they exchanged was dangerous, charged with so much longing and heat that her nipples stood to attention, believing that it was time to come out and play.

Down, girls.

"I feel strange leaving the office for a week," Beyoncé confessed.

"You're taking next week off, too?"

She shrugged in response. "I tried to book a few appointments, but it seems that everyone else will off. In any case, the last few years were rather uneventful."

She nodded, pretending that she was paying attention to what she was saying rather than the way her lips moved,  and how pretty and pink and kissable they were.

It killed her, but everyday it became harder to stop herself from doing something about the sizzling attraction. She had to remind herself that she was a responsible adult—a mother. She just couldn't afford to jump into something with her boss; she had Blue to think of. What would happen when she grew tired of her like she evidently had of Michelle.

"What?" she asked. "You seem a little sad."

She didn't know why or how the words crossed her lips.

"I'm wondering what happened with… Michelle. You two seemed…" Like horny teenagers. "Passionate."

Beyoncé had the good sense to seem ashamed.

"Michelle was, for lack of better words, a rebound."

She thought she might leave it at that for a minute, but she sat on her desk and started to  absentmindedly play with one of her pens as she explained, "I had a relationship—a long time ago, right after college, but I thought she was it. I was ready for her to be it."

She was sincere, she could see it.

"It didn't work out. I'm not going to pretend it was her fault—the blames on me. I worked too hard, and paid too little attention to her."

Onika could imagine that; she seemed so focused and passionate when she worked on a deal.

"Maybe she should have talked to me before— anyway, she didn't, she just walked out, and it broke something in me. I didn't date for five years. I…played around, and then some, for a year, and then I was done with that, too.

She nodded, gesturing for her to go on.

"So, after four years of celibacy, I met Michelle." Then, she laughed and said, "All right, I'm not going to lie. I met you. Or I saw you again, anyway. And… I was attracted to you. That's something I hadn't felt for a while. I regained the ability to be attracted to women, and then I met Michelle. We hung out for a month, and she seemed good enough. So, I tried a relationship."

Beyoncé's amber eyes had stayed fixed on her hand through the shocking speech, but she glanced at her briefly, and Onika saw how brightly they shone.

She believed her. Everything she'd just said was true—and that was baaaaaad for her poor little battered heart.

"I was using her; I didn't see it then. But I was, and I'm only glad she was using me, to. Michelle was also seeing her boss—and who knows how many others. I'm not into half-assed relationships, Onika."

The way she said her name—like she was caressing it, stroking it—was enough to make her shiver, if her words hadn't already done the trick.

"Anyway, I'm done playing around. The next woman in my life will be vetted quite carefully, as I intend to keep her," She told her, now looking right at her.

"Oh. Good to know."

She was in deep, deep shit.
