I can't brush it off
I've tried but to no avail
when the topic first came up
I had imagined a scene somewhat familiar
you were just as awkward
as I had pictured
but I simply smiled and didn't answer
because the moment was already gone
because it was too soon
...too risky
for my hopes to begin to rise
but ask me again in a few months
