Unexpected Visitor

" How was the first day kids ?"  Mr. Harrison asked as he sat down to the dinner table.

"It was alright." Briar said putting Ranch dressing on her salad. Ren just kept looking down at his food, he was obviously in a bad mood. 

"Make any new friends ?" Their mother asked trying to continue the conversation. Neither of the Harrison children wanted to be at the family dinner but at least Briar was trying to make her parents happy.

"No I didn't, did you Ren ?" Briar asked trying to get her brother to ask.

"Yeah."

"What's their name ?" Mrs. Harrison asked excitedly while looking at her son.

"Alex."

"What's his last name ? Maybe we know his parents." Mr. Harrison asked curious.

"I don't know. Now can I go ?" Ren asked standing up.

"Go where honey ?" Mrs. Harrison questioned disappointingly.

"Just out with the guys." 

"Sure, you can go." His mom said looking down. Ren put his plate in the sink and went upstairs. He came back down stairs a few seconds later in different clothes and cologne on. After the door shut and Ren was out of the house, Mr.Harrison stood up with an angry look on his face. He went upstairs to his room and slammed the door.

Briar looked up at her mother who now had tears in her eyes.

"We just wanted a family dinner." She said sadly looking at her daughter. Briar felt terrible for her mother.

"Briar you can go somewhere too, you can go out or go to your room. You don't have to sit with me." Mrs.Harrison said with a tear falling down her cheek.

"No mom, I want to stay here with you." Briar put her hand over her mothers. The two of them sat at the table for almost two hours. It was eight o'clock by the time they were all talked out. They said goodnight to each other and went their separate ways. Mrs. Harrison started doing dishes and  Briar went to her room.

Briar did something out of the ordinary, picked up her phone and dialed Ashlynn's number.

"Can you pick me up in twenty minutes ? Let's go to that party." Briar smiled as she talked to her best friend.

"Oh my gosh yes!" Ashlynn replied.

"But park down the street, I'm gonna sneak out." The two best friends said their goodbyes and hung up. 

Briar went to her closet and found a pair high waisted shorts and a black tank top to put on. She very lightly put some makeup on and curled her hair as fast as she could. 

She quickly tied a bunch of clothes and bed sheets together so she could sneak out of her window. Before she climbed down she put a few sprays of perfume on.

As she was slowly climbing down the side of her house she asked herself a couple of questions. Why was she even going out on a Monday night? Why was she even going out at all ? Why did she put so much effort into her appearance ? Was this all because of Corey ? When she safely made it to the ground she took off running as fast as she could to Ashlynn's car out of the fear of being caught. 

She got the passenger seat of Ashlynn's car.

"You look hot!" Ashlynn yelled. Funny how Briar had that said twice to her in one day.

"Thanks, you know how to get their right?" Briar asked out of breath from running.

"Yes ma'am."
