MARIKO—MARI—HER YOUNGER SISTER, is a preppy up-and-coming First Year at Aoba Johsai. She was in elementary school when the scandal first broke out and at that time, she was really too young to understand the evils of the world and what defined sin and crime. Mari's smaller than average and more innocent than average, yet she soon grew to be deadlier than average. A dormant bloodthirst for power set on fire when she was just beginning her multiplication table sent her soaring above the rest. The youngest sister is really just trying to cope with all the trauma she's been dealt and out of her entire family, she takes the cake when it comes to bouncing back.
Fiercely competitive with a drive to win, Mari dominates the volleyball court. Her high jump is a near-holy manifestation of her anger that coils centimeters beneath her epidermis awaiting provocation on the inside, but as soon as her shoes touch the court it's expelled from her body in waves of fury so hot it's blue. It strikes fear into her opponents and spectators as they see her smoldering glares, knowing that she's not on their side.
It's the kind of underlying rage that kept bullies a safe distance away from her through elementary and middle school even as she skipped grades as easily as skipping stones. She found power in her own way and was prepared to go to extreme lengths to keep it.
In that way Mari and Tahji were remarkably different. The younger sibling temped her anger, stoking it like a fire to make it stronger and more effective and the older kept everything within—using an artificial means of expelling what little she could afford. They're both needlessly efficient at what they do.
That does not transfer into cooking prowess, however. Their father is at his office job at an advertising company where he'll hopefully put his creativity to better use. Their mother is at her aunt's home on the coast as she attempts to purge herself of sin once more, it's failed the last five years, so it was statistically probable that it would fail again.
"Can we get foods that are high in protein nee?"
"What's protein?" Tahji retorts lamely. It was kind of ego-bruising for her to admit that she was dumber than her genius little sister. It's not that she's bad at studying, but it takes her forever to get content into her stupid head. In regards of skill set, the two sisters are miles apart. Tahji's good at reading people around her and acting to a role, Mari's good at practically everything else aside from humanity.
"You're supposed to be the one who knows Tahji." Mari sighs pushing around her overcooked scrambled eggs on her plate. Their life feels like overcooked eggs at this rate. She never realized how many times her older sister had to switch schools because of her pride and how the rumors always resurfaced like ants out of the woodwork with every little movement until last week. She'd never witnessed her older sister breathe fire, but now all she could see is a dragon on her kitchen counter. Puff the Magic one, if you want specifics.
