"Coach agreed to let me on the team, but I probably won't be starting for a while. No one believed that I was thirteen so everyone walked down to the main office with me and Coach just to get my records checked." Mariko buzzes with excitement as the two sisters leave Aoba Johsai behind them. Tahji listens, not really absorbing what her sister says as she sips from a banana milk carton. She really thinks her sister's attached to Aoba Johsai so they can only hope that the past won't catch up to them.
There's certain things that Tahjiko can and cannot control and her little sister is one of them. She cannot control whether or not her sister will fall in love with Aoba Johsai or it's volleyball team just like she can't control whether or not their past will catch up to them. Tahjiko can only hope, and if she's painfully honest, she despises leaving her fate up to something as faulty as hope.
"That's exciting."
"Are you going to do any clubs neechan?"
"I think I'm just going to focus on graduation for now."
"You should join the cheerleading club. You did that last year right?" Mariko continues, unfazed by Tahji's disinterest in involvement with education.
The older sister hums, maybe she should get into clubs again, but nothing's holding her interest. In her high school years she'd gotten too addicted to parties on the weekend. For things organized by high schoolers and college students that could barely hold themselves through a week of hard work and passing class, parties typically had remarkably nice lighting.
"Maybe I'll try photography this year." She muses as they stop at a crosswalk on their way home.
"Wait Mari-chan!" Oikawa Tooru manifests from almost a block away, he's sprinting towards the two sisters as they continue to walk away in silent agreement. "MariMariMari!" He finally reaches a distance where the Okonome sisters can no longer ignore Oikawa Tooru.
"Yes Oikawa-senpai?" Mariko asks politely as the brunet melts with delight at getting called a senpai. For such an observational person he could be quite shallow.
"I want to know how high your jump is." He says breathlessly, brown eyes fixated on the young girl before him as she thinks back to her Junior High days.
"The last time I checked it in the spring it was a little bit above two meters, but I think it got higher since I was training during the summer."It definitely got higher through the summer but she wasn't a bragger.
He nods, bowing as the two sisters begin to walk toward their house just a little faster. If his skull were a little more transparent they could've seen the gears turning in his head.
"No, neechan, we're going to die. You push the knob at light until you see the blue flame and then turn it up to your heat." Mariko says looking up from the instruction manual as her sister again, lights the stove incorrectly. Slapping her hand away, the younger does it correctly the first try. Pouting, Tahji sets the pot of water on the stove. The instant box of macaroni and cheese is just waiting to be created and devoured, but for a while it looked like the two were going to suffocate themselves with natural gas before that can happen.
