Lavender Bell was fourteen. She had sandy blond hair that hung a few inches past her shoulders. She had light brown eyes and a contagious smile and laugh.
Her friends would describe her as bubbly. Always laughing always full of energy. She was everybody's best friend. Always reliable.
She lived with her mother just on the edge of town. There was a three mile walk on an old train track that she had to take to get to the bus stop everyday.
Normally her friends Hallie and Bret would meet her half way and they'd visit during the walk to the bus and all they way to school.

The main street wasn't normally busy so on this one particular day, when Lavender was heading down the track, when a quad cab pick up stopped and an older guy just sat and watched her, she found it strange. First off, why did the driver stop?
Second, who was he? She didn't get a very good look at him.
She shrugged it off and continued on down the tracks. By the time she had met up with Hallie and Bret, she had forgotten about it.

It was pretty much the same thing as always. Meet up with Hallie and Bret. Talk about Hallie's latest crush. Drew McGhee, the sheriff's latest foster kid. Then talk about Marvel vs. DC. Who did what better? Which characters are remakes off of the other comics.
By the time they had reached the school, both Bret and Hallie were convinced that Marvel and DC should just team up already. That was the usual consensus.
Then it was adios until school was out.

Lavender had left Bret and Hallie at the usual meet up space on the train tracks and was almost home when she noticed the same white quad cab pick up parked about a mile down the road from her house. She could see someone standing near the truck and shrugged it off. They must be new neighbors. Maybe earlier when she saw the truck stopped they driver was looking for a lost dog or cat.
She shrugged it off and went on into the house.

She went on up to her bedroom and put her earbuds in then started blasting some Bruno Mars and dancing around her room while she tidied it up.

Suddenly she had a strange feeling that she wasn't alone.
She stood up and looked around. She gasped when she saw fresh dirty shoe tracks leading out of her closet and out of her bedroom.
She pulled the earbuds out and shouted "MOM!!"
