Jay's POV:
I haven't heard from Alex in a week. Iv'e called and texted her probably a thousand times. Okay no, not a thousand times that's over exaggerating. Iv'e called her 8 times, and texted her 5 times. She read all my texts but never repsonded. I decided not to waste my life just sitting in my room waiting for a phone call so I went to the grocery store. Guess who was there? My best friend who I haven't seen in 2 years. Her name is Sarah. No, we have not dated I've known her since 6th grade and were in our last year of high school. So i've known her for 7 years.
"Oh my gosh! Jay! I haven't seen you in forever!" She said as she hugged me.
"I know it feels like it's been forever! You cut your hair!!!!!" Sarah used to have hair that went passed the middle of her back and now it's shorter then shoulder length but still really pretty. Sarah is the kind of person that can make you laugh for hours, she has a great personality, she's super pretty, and super kind hearted. She's gone through a lot of tough things but she's probably the strongest person I know. Any guy that has Sarah is the luckiest guy in the world. See I would never date her because she's like a sister to me and I am not interested even though she's like the coolest person ever...besides Alex.
"Yeah I did. It feels so different!"
I laughed. "I thought you lived in New York?"
"I did I just moved back!"
"Oh my gosh! Dude you need to come over! Oh I have to tell you about this girl!!"
"ohhhh... Does Jay have a girlfriend."
"Unfortunately no, I'm still the loner freak you've always known."
She lightly punched me in the arm. "oh yes." she said sarcastically.
"Okay I need to get some things, after that do you want to come over?"
"Yeah sure. Meet you here in 10?"
"Sounds good."
I quickly grabbed all the things on the list my parents gave me:
Apples
Sausage
Christmas cookies
Rib-eye steak
and party snacks.
I went to the checkout lane but the lady that was checking my items kept talking so i just paid and grabbed all my things and met Sarah at the same place. She wasn't there. I looked around to see her walking towards me with 5 grocery bags filled with junk food.
"What's that for?" I asked.
"I remembered Cheetos were your favorite so I got you some."
"Some? You're holding 5 bags of them."
"You bet I am."
"You're a dork."
"And your a loser."
"Okay, let's go."
Once we got in the car I turned my Iphone on to the bluetooth so it will play through the car and turned on "The Hanging Tree" by Jennifer Lawrence from Mockingjay. As soon as it started to play Sarah starts screaming as loud as she can the lyrics.
"Wow Sarah calm down I love this song too but i'm not screaming the lyrics."
"I don't care and if you don't like it then get out."
"but this is my car and i'm driving." I laughed
"Haha well I don't care."
We both just laughed and both started screaming the lyrics to the song.
"Any girls you like?"asked Sarah.
"Well there is this one girl but she doesnt like me."
"Oh..what's her name?" Sarah asked.
"Alex."
"Oh."
There was an awkward silence for a few minutes
"Ya."
"What is she like?"
"Well I haven't known her for long, but she's great she's funny, pretty, adorable, smart, and just a lot more."
"That's cool." She said in a quitter tone.
"Yeah, she's really depressed though."
"Really? Why?"
"These girls."
"I doubt there bad."
"There really bad."
"Okay.."
The rest of the car ride was silent.
Once we got to my house we watched "The Maze Runner" and ate Cheetos. We didn't say much during the movie or after. I picked up all the crumbs from the Cheetos and threw them away, and then picked up the blankets. When I was setting the blankets down back in the closet by the living room my phone rang.
"It's your girlfriend." Sarah said sarcastically
"She's not my girlfriend."
I picked up the phone to hear a better Alex.
"Hey." She said
"Hey, you sound better."
"Yeah, kinda. The girls are still bothering me though."
"I'm sorry."
"It's not your fault. Can I come over?"
"Um...sure."
"You don't sound so sure."
"No, you can its just one of my old friends are here."
"Oh, sorry to intrude."
"No, please come over!"
"Alright, I'll text you when I get there."
"Alright."
I kinda felt the need to say I miss you but I didn't. We both hung up the phone and I went upstairs to go talk to Sarah.
"So your what you so call a friend is coming over?"
"Yeah, what do you mean?"
"Nothing." She rolled her eyes.
"Well okay."
"I'm going to leave."
"Why?"
"Why not"
"Because your my best friend and I haven't seen you in 2 years."
"I need to go Jay."
"Alright, text me?"
"Maybe."
"Maybe?" I questioned.
Then she ran down the stairs and walked out the front door. She seemed upset but I didn't understand why. She started to get upset when I started to talk about Alex. Was she jealous? No, she can't be she's like a sister.
When I went to sit down the door whipped open and there was Sarah. She just came in and hugged me. I didn't know why. She didn't say a word and then just left. What the heck? She's defiantly acting different. I kinda just stood there in that same place wondering what had just happened until the doorbell rang. There was that beautiful Alex I met at the airport.
"You look better." I said.
"I was drunk that other day, of course I look better."
"Jeez, sassy."
"Thanks for having me over."
"No problem."
"Where's your friend?"
"She left."
"Because of me?"
"Yes..no..I really don't know."
"Okay."
The rest of the time she was here she just explained to me that the girls got mad at her for me texting them. They started saying even worse things to her. I felt bad. She started to cry again, but I calmed her. She ended up spending the night she slept on the couch in my room. I gave her 2 blankets and a few pillows. I couldn't sleep thinking about how Sarah acted today. I also didn't sleep cause neither did Alex. She got up and quietly asked "Jay are you awake?"
"Yes."
"I can't sleep."
"Neither can I."
"Can I come lay with you?"
Did she really just ask me that?
"Sure." I scooted over to make room for her. She snuggled up like a child into a ball and started to cry.
"Alex?"
"Yeah?" She sniffles through her words.
"Are you okay?"
"I don't know anymore." She said as she started to sob loudly. I wrapped my arms around her and held her tight. She was cold. I wanted to hold her for as long as possible to make her pain go away. She gave me these feelings, good feelings I've never had. I've known her for a very short time but I liked her. I hated to see her in pain. About almost an hour later she stopped crying and we both just fell asleep, with her head and her hand on my chest.
