Chapter 2

The next one week, the poor girl was forced to learn the stuffs going on in Port Mafia. Sakunosuke was holding her again in his arms when they walked to the main hall of one of the buildings the Port Mafia had. The both of them did not say anything as Futaba was focusing on the documents gripped in her hand while biting her thumb of her other hand.

"What's wrong?" Sakunosuke asked.

"This is stupid!" the girl exclaimed in frustration, surprising the boy with her sudden outburst. Her usual stoic expression changed into an annoyed one. "How can that old fool asked me to correct his all stupid mistakes in business, which are horrible by the way, and not only that, he wants me to turn them into profit!"

"Well, I'm sure you'll figure something up." He said with his uninterest tone. "Besides, the boss—"

"—gives you the task because he believes in you. Tsk!" Mocked the girl, finishing Sakunosuke's speech while giving him a dirty look.

Sakunosuke shut his mouth down and did not say anything else. After almost a week spending time with her, Sakunosuke noticed that the girl is easily pissed off though she only showed it to either him, the boss, or Mori, not that she already met the others though.

"Oda-kun," a voice called, making both Sakunosuke and Futaba's expressions changed into a stoic ones. There, in the main hall, full of people from the lowest rank into the highest rank in the Port Mafia. Sakunosuke came closer to where the boss was stood, then faced the crowd.

"Attention!" Mori, who stood beside the boss shouted. The crowd went silent and paid attention to him. Futaba could see Mori's eyes widened a bit and a tremor of excitement washed through him. He'll be a hell of Port Mafia, she thought while narrowing her eyes.

"Thank you, Ougai-kun." The boss cleared his throat and signalling his hand to Futaba. "This is Dingo."

The silence turned into murmurs. "Yes, some of you got it right. She is the Dingo of the economy, the queen of business. Starting from now, she is part of Port Mafia as you useless guys can't work right. I will put all of the critical business into her hands, so treat her right as she is Port Mafia's spine!"

One of the higher up rank grunted. "What an eleven year old kid can do? Boss, this is no playground!"

Some people also voiced their agreement, making veins popped in the boss' head. However, before he snapped, someone from the corner of the room chuckled, making the room went silent again. "Clearly, you don't know who she actually is, remembering your comment."

"Hirotsu, you bastard!"

"She is the Dingo, the number one business person known in the world. She can pull some tricks that will make everything works in her favour. That's why she is feared in her own way," Hirotsu, the man in his 40s, looked straight in Futaba's eyes. "Nobody knows her actual identity, though I am shocked to know that such a powerful person is merely a child, like you said."

Hirotsu's words shut everybody's mouth up. The boss sighed, then nodded. "Maybe only Hirotsu who is worthy to still be in Port Mafia. As I said before, I'll let Dingo handle the crucial parts of our organization's business. If any of you are slacking off, I'll let her fire you. Do you understand?"

The men answered in the same time. "Ha'i!"

"You're dismissed."

"Yes, boss!"

They all bowed as the old man left with Mori hot on his trail. The men were scattering away. They either went back to their job or slacked off. A pre-teen, in Sakunosuke's age, came closer with such a glee. She wore a formal kimono, which Futaba thought really suit her. The girl, who's as tall as Sakunosuke hid most of her face behind her sleeve, though there was an amused glint in her eyes.

"Hello." The girl said.

Futaba narrowed her eyes at the girl, she did not even bother to answer. Sakunosuke who knew this sighed. He shifted his grip on the girl, starting to feel numb. "Hi there, Ozaki."

"My name's Ozaki Kōyō, Dingo."

Futaba frowned. "Dazai Futaba."

"You're a Dazai?" Kōyō was surprised for a moment before she looked at Sakunosuke. "I thought you're supposed to kill the entire clan?"

Sakunosuke shrugged. "No, the boss wanted her to be alive."

"I see."

Futaba gave Sakunosuke a look, which made the boy sighed again. "Look, Ozaki. It's nice talking to you, but Dazai and I are needed in some places."

"Alright." Kōyō came closer before giving a brief glance to Futaba's amputated right leg. She swiped the girl's light brown hair from her face and stroke it gently. "We will have some bonding moments later. Take care, you too."

"You too, Ozaki."

Sakunosuke once again shifted Futaba's position in his arms before walking away. After a brief moment, Futaba opened her mouth. "Odasaku, people are looking at us."

"I know." Sakunosuke frowned. "Odasaku?"

Futaba did not look at him, but he could see the blush on her cheek. "It suits you. Besides, I prefer first name basis so just call me Futaba. I don't like to be reminded that I'm a Dazai."

"Why not?"

"Because they don't see me as my own person when they know what clan I'm from. Like, 'Ah of course she is the way she is. She is a Dazai, afterall.'" Futaba mocked. "Well, if you understand what I mean, that is."

Sakunosuke rolled his eyes. "I'm not stupid."

"Oh? That's news."

A vein popped from Sakunosuke's forehead. "Watch it, I can drop you at any second now."

Futaba chuckled, and a smile craved on her face. Sakunosuke watched it in awe, as he never seen the girl smile before. Without thinking, he said, "You look pretty when you smile. You should smile more."

His words made Futaba froze. Sakunosuke then froze too after realizing what he had said. Blushes crept into their faces as they walked in silence. An awkward silence that is.

Without the both of them noticing, Kōyō was watching the whole ordeal in amusement. "Oh, how wonderful it is if they become a couple."

Little did she know, her words were jinxed.
