"come on there's a party downstairs, instead of being on your phone go and be social," my mum looked at me.

"i am being social."

"i meant in person grace, now go you'll have fun."

and with that i left. i went to the party in my hotel lobby. people ended up being closer to my age than younger. i sat down on a table by myself scrolling through instagram.

"who will be duetting next?" the karaoke man beamed. the lights spun around the room selecting the next pair to duet. great. with my luck, i got chosen. don't get me wrong i love karaoke but in front of strangers. no chance.

i nervously stepped up onto the stage with a boy standing next to me. he also looked as nervous. the song started to play. he sang and he was amazing. his voice was raspy.
it was my turn. i'm not good at singing but i'll always have fun.
i was sad that the song had ended. i looked into his blue eyes. he shook my hands.

"lewis."
"grace," i smiled.

"i had so much fun," lewis said.
"me too."
"here i'll text you!" he said, he took a photo of me. i put my number in his phone as he did mine.

"3.. 2.. 1.. happy new year!" the whole place erupted with cheer and joy. i hugged lewis.

"i should go find my family," i said.
"me too, i'll see you later grace."
