Akari's mother died during childbirth. Her father unfortunately died on the mission when she was 2. Her grandfather took care of her until he died of age 3 years later.

Before he died he gave her a katana and left her in care of his old student, Hiruzen Sarutobi.

She was 1 year older than his son Asuma, she always treated him like her younger brother even though they weren't related.

She is also best-friend of Rin Nohara and Kurenai Yuhi.
