Chapter FOUR
Blair
Once I had my room set up how I wanted it, I gazed around, to make sure everything was right. My old stylish aqua blue bed spread, with shiny deep blue sequins covered my average king size bed beautifully, just like I hoped it would; the photos I had printed and framed before I left home, of me and my baby brother, who wasn't much of a baby anymore – he was 15. Brandon and I were always really close – we did almost everything together; and when I left, I promised him and dad that I would call almost every night. He agreed easily, but only after I confessed that he couldn’t actually come with me to college, and he complained and complained how it wasn't fair that I wasn't taking him.
I actually had to check my suitcase, just to make sure he hadn’t strewn my clothes in different hiding places over the house, and concealed himself within it, even though with the size of my suitcase, he still wouldn’t have been able to fit in it.
My dark oak wood dresser now contained all the clothing I brought with me, and supported more photo frames, of my brother, my mother and father, including a ‘family’ photo. I say ‘family’ with apostrophes, because the photo holds more than just my brother, father, mother, and I. It was taken before my mother’s death, so it was a true family photo.
All our maids, gardeners, drivers, and chefs were in the photo alongside us. My mother had been good friends with the kitchen staff, because she loved to cook and help clean, so she spent most of her time learning their different ways and techniques in the art of cooking. My father was very well acquainted with everyone who worked for him; he considered them part of the family, the way they treated us, and we them.
Brandon and I would always chat with the maids, because they were always cleaning our rooms – with our assistance, because we always felt bad when they were picking up our things – and the driver, Steve, because he drove my brother and me everywhere, until I eventually got my license. Then I took over that position, though we still kept Steve on, because, like I said, he was like family. He was an old man, in his early 60’s, but he was undeniably kind to my family, for the 23 years he's been driving my father – ever since he become the famous rock star he is.
I do miss my family already, but who wouldn’t?
This wasn't a one-subject kind of school. It was just like any other college – teaching basic classes, such as Math, History, Science, and English, only more advanced, and having sports teams, with a mascot – the mascot was a wolf; I don’t really understand why though, it just is.
But they focused mainly on the musical and choreographic arts for those who attend the school to improve at it.
After I was finished observing my room, very please with my success, I gazed over in the general direction of the digital clock I had plugged in, and was sitting above my side table. It read 3:57pm. I forgot that I needed to get my timetable before tomorrow; otherwise I’ll end up being late for my classes, so I decided to go down now while I still can.
I traveled from the bedroom, through the living room, and towards the door. I passed Michelle, who was engrossed in her tennis game on the Wii.
“Michelle? I’m just going to go down to the office, and get my schedule. Did you want to come with me?” I asked, unsure if she was even paying attention to my small speech. Instantly, her head flipped in my direction, a smile stretching over her mouth.
“Yeah, sure! I’ll show you where it is. I’ll have to take you to Gabby’s room on the way back, for you to meet her – she's my twin sister. I think you’ll like her.” She finished with a knowing smile, as if she knew I certainly would.
“Um, okay, let’s go.”
How Michelle knew I would love Gabriella, was unknown. But Gabriella was simply astonishing; she was almost a complete duplicate of Michelle; in looks, at least – other than her hair; it was a shade darker than Michelle's, but it suited her beautifully – because they seemed close to direct opposites in personality. And what I wouldn’t have guessed was that both she and Michelle were compassionate ballet dancers. Gabriella was fun loving, gentle, and kind; and Michelle was exciting, loud, and rather bold – she won't take crap if people deal it out to her or her sister.
After I received my schedule from the office, Michelle and I had gone up to visit Gabriella; she was wearing a yellow floral summer dress, with a pearl white necklace hanging loosely from her neck, and red flip-flops.
I ended up having every class with either Gabriella or Michelle, or both, so I will never be in a class all by myself. And by the time Michelle and I left Gabriella's dorm room, it was 6:40. Michelle and I were laughing about something non-important – but what is important to laugh at? – When we waltzed through the dorm room, and into the living room.
But not only I was caught off-guard by what startled us from over on the sofa.
A girl with urban red hair was perched straddling a guy on the sofa, macking on him. I just stood there, eyes wide, frame still.
“Nikki! Jack!” Michelle yelled her eyes as wide as mine, her jaw slack and hanging open.
The guy Nikki was smooching, Jack, suddenly break off, switching his focus to Michelle and I. He looked a bit shocked, and torn between a difficult decision.
Until he finally made up his mind, and chose the smart move.
“Uh, I’ll see you tomorrow, babe.” He mumbled, slipping out from underneath her skimpily dressed body. She was wearing shorts so short, it was revealing half of her butt, and a tank top 3 sizes smaller than she should wear, revealing the fake boobs that she possessed. Nikki's fiery red hair was quivering; her tiny frame shaking with what I think may be rage.
“What the f*ck do you do that for, you stupid b*tch?! Could you not see I was busy! Michelle, who the f*ck is this?” Nikki's high pitch voice instantly alerted me of how annoying that will get – very quickly. It was already ringing through my ears.
“Our new roommate; who do you think she is?!” Michelle answered back smartly; I could already sense the enormous amount of dislike they held for one another – they looked like they were going to ring each other’s necks any moment.
“Um, hi, I’m Blair Franklin.” I added, introducing myself formally with my hand extended towards my other new roommate. I witnessed Nikki flinched away from my hand slightly, like I had touched something disgustingly contagious. She chuckled to herself for a moment, then pointed in the direction of my hand that I had extended.
“She actually thinks I’m going to touch that; who knows where it’s been.” She directed at Michelle, though she was obviously referring to me – as clear as crystal that she meant me.
Michelle scoffed, a disgusted look consuming her features.
“You’re f*cking filthy; can you ever go ONE day without being a total f*cking b*tch?” Michelle asked, clearly bemused by her own little joke – I'm guessing that she already knew the answer.
Nikki ignored Michelle, still looking at my hand like it was a plague. I awkwardly reeled my hand back, holding it against my chest, looking uncomfortable.
Nikki smirked at me, then rose to her feet, and cat walked into the first bedroom – I guess that one was hers, obviously.
“What a b*tch…” I heard Michelle mutter, then like a switch, she flicked back to her signature happy mood.
“Let’s go and get your stuff ready for tomorrow, so they you can put it all in your locker. Okay?” she asked, unsure. I nodded, still a little confused from my first interaction with Nikki.
Cheerleader, I bet.
