008. 𝐦𝐨𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭aligned, a finn wolfhard
best friend & soulmate au
she stared into the gravel like it was foreign.
knees to her chest as her cloudy state of mind did nothing but tire her. she was keeping up with this bullshit for too long that overthinking it had already become useless and bland.
he, on the other hand let his thoughts freely play on his face. his eyes so curious and lips pursed as he stared into her weak stance. she had never cried, and it unsettled him.
her parents had fought again. and he coincidentally heard, maybe so, the whole neighborhood. their actions so loud, a deaf person would know, for their shadows reflected anger and regret towards their marriage in the tiniest movement.
finn, much like previous situations, would ask to hang out at the empty lotted round-a-bout three streets away, far enough to not to hear the muffles of adults yelling at each other about everything and anything. he'd say it was to not waste away his sleepless night, but it was obvious he just wanted to pull her away from all that negativity. yet she always agreed, wanting his comfort, even if it was rare for a conversation to brew between the two.
"it's sad" she said, resting her chin on her knee. her hands rubbing on her shivering calves that remained bare from the length of her sweatpants. "what is?" he asked, surprised of her sense of expression. "i mean, you ask someone about love and they tell you about heart break." she painfully grins, looking towards him.
but he doesn't smile back.
concern flushed his eyes as he stared into hers, not able to imagine how tough it had been getting for her at home. "it's like, weird of me to get heartache." she says with a raspy chuckle, "it isn't even my relationship" she says, resting her hands behind her back and onto the cemented side-walk.
"it doesn't matter whether it's your relationship or not, you don't have to feel the need to stop hurting they way you do because of them." he reassures her as she shakes her head slowly. "it's just mean of me to act clueless when this is all my doing"
"you think it's your fault?"
"i know it is"
he sighs, her agony radiating onto his finger tips, reaching his heart that began to shudder. "you shouldn't be thinking that way" he tells her, the street lamp behind him slowly reflecting on her eyes as they began to tear.
she looks away, not needing to show any more reason for him to pity her. because that's all he's truly been doing.
pitying his best friend.
