Stay in Place

We move on, you stay in place.
A story trapped in time and space.
The only one we left behind,
Leaving behind your name and face.

Way back when our lives began,
At only age fifteen,
You were a fairly pretty girl,
Someone I could have seen.

You sat dead centre in the class,
With some of your good friends,
You hid behind your shy, small smiles
And comfort of weekends.

We move on, you stay in place.
A story trapped in time and space.
The only one we left behind,
Leaving behind your name and face.

We wouldn't know that soon in time,
You'd turn our lives around,
Your name would become legend,
As your memory was found.

The last time that I saw you
Was on Friday Afternoon
We'd shared a class that morning,
And I'd hoped to see you soon.

The Monday after, we were shocked,
To learn that you had died.
Our teacher's voice felt weak and lost.
And many students cried.

We move on, you stay in place.
A story trapped in time and space.
The only one we left behind,
Leaving behind your name and face.

Our fragile adolescent minds
Could never comprehend,
How you were dead and gone for good,
You'd never speak again.

I hadn't known you very well,
And I had felt great sorrow,
'Cause you've become a memory,
While we live in tomorrow.

Your death had shooken up the school,
And many mourned your loss,
Attending at your funeral,
Without the bitter cost.

We move on, you stay in place.
A story trapped in time and space.
The only one we left behind,
Leaving behind your name and face.

The principal was filled with grief,
As students hugged each other,
In band, we played the song you would have played,
Called "Superman Lover".

Now we are seventeen years old,
And soon to be eighteen,
As we receive certificates,
You're nowhere to be seen.

I wish that you were here with us,
As we wait in the halls,
Receiving your diploma,
Once you hear your name is called.

We move on, you stay in place.
A story trapped in time and space.
The only one we left behind,
Leaving behind your name and face.

Year by year, we all grow older
As you stay the same,
Eternally fifteen years old,
Eternal you became.

The principal now keeps a photo,
Of your youthful smile,
A teenage girl, gone far too soon,
Upon his coffee tile.

We move on, you stay in place.
A story trapped in time and space.
The only one we left behind,
Leaving behind your name and face.

Your name still fill the school hallways,
Your prescence felt within.
I see you in my memories
And here you through the wind.

Your photographic memories
Live on through Instagram.
An undeleted stream of shots,
From where and back again.

Your memory will live in us,
Your legend will stand strong,
Your friends and family will miss you,
For many years along.

(Rest in peace. We'll see you soon, friend.)
