The Dream

Her head swirled. She didn't know what was going on. She looked up into the face of a giant creature. Large black wings spread out from it. The tail was covered in dark spikes. She felt an icy heat emerging from the body. Feverish, cold, blue eyes stared into her very soul, and she couldn't look away. The pain started and continually grew, until she couldn't take it anymore. She purposely looked the beast in the eye and began climbing. She started up the side of the dragon, finally making her way to its back.

The creature spread it's wings and soared into the sky, flying over beautiful mountains and rivers, snaking their way through the land. Creatures she had never seen were playing in a waterfall. They raced over the land quickly, so that all that she could see blurred figures and green trees flying by. As they continued throughout this strange land, she saw a tree. She had never seen a tree so big. They rose higher in the air and still the tree was above them. It had dark green leaves so thick you couldn't see the trunk as it continued upward, with streams of silver running through them, . The trunk was bigger and three houses around.

They finally passed the intimidating tree, and the landscape continued, dark mountains in the distance. She closed her eyes, savoring the moment.

When she opened them, the scene was entirely different. Rocky ruins, red sky, and hardened lava was everywhere. The dark mountains they saw were now in full view, and they weren't mountains at all, they were volcanos. The dragon pressed on, not stopping. She was beginning to become sore from riding so long. They finally came to a wall. It was miles wide, and miles high. It was as if they had found the edge of the world, if the world was a box. The dragon, however, didn't stop. It flew almost straight into the wall before shooting up into the sky. Higher and higher they rose, until finally you could see the sky. Ethelle looked over the large neck of the creature and saw a stone slab. The writing was in a tongue she didn't recognize, but then she saw it.

When who shall see this stone, the last dragon,

but yet the first.

A young girl shall come along,

the only way, but for the curse.

Together they will find a way to save a certain race,

But if the curse proves true then another one will chase.

The curse is if these two, shall fall together in their will,

They shall find it much harder, this prophecy, to fulfill.

What is it, and what does it mean? As the dragon landed, she slid down its back and landed next to it. She walked around the the writing, puzzled. The last dragon, she mused. What could it mean? A young girl, it could be talking about her. But how could she be the only way. The last few lines were the most confusing. The curse... What could it be?

Then she felt a heart wrenching feeling in her stomach. The dragon had picked her up by his claws and was now carrying her away. She screamed, wishing for anything that it could be over. She close her eyes and pretended that she was home. As she slowly began to enjoy the ride, she opened her eyes. The rocks slowly started turning into dirt, with grass patches here and there. Eventually there was grass and trees everywhere. It felt like time was turning back.

They came to a waterfall, where they landed beside. The body she was sitting in became cold. She shivered, and the dragon started to grow. It grew twice, three times it's size. It roared, so loud she could barely hear herself think. It started thrashing, and she fell off. As she started going down the waterfall, the dragon began destroying everything in sight, and it soon became like the ruins she saw near the prophecy.

She fell far down the side of the waterfall and landed in a pool of water. She couldn't swim, and flailed uselessly. As she passed into darkness, she could hear faintly, "Ethel, Ethel..."
