Another day passed where I spent my days alone in bed. This was depressing. I tried not to text the boys because I was still mad at them but the truth is I really miss them. I decided I'd take the dog for a walk to take my mind off everything. I changed into my workout outfit and left my hair and face in its natural state.
As I was walking with my dog I got a phone call. No caller id. I declined it but it rang again and again. I normally don't answer them but it was so consistent I eventually answered.
"Hello?" I said hesitantly.
"Beth! I'm so glad to hear your voice, it's mason" he said.
"Mason? How did you get my number?" I asked.
"Ashley" he told me.
"Anyway look I know you're probably still mad at me but I just wanted to hear from you" he added.
"Mad? You kept your whole identity from me. Ofcourse I'm mad!" I raised my voice slightly.
"I know I know! And I'm sorry but you have to understand why! And I'll explain it all if you just come see me" he says.
"I don't think that's a good idea" i tell him.
"Beth please!" He begs.
"Fine! but you come meet me, I don't wanna see the others" I demand.
"Okay great! Where are you?" He asked.
"Outside of beau park" I tell him.
"Cool i'm on my way and also...Thank you!" He says before ending the call.
Great. Self isolation is clearly going well. I waited roughly 20 minutes for mason and I am very impatient so he's lucky I stayed 5 minutes.
"Beth! Hey" mason greeted me and stroked my dog.
"I'm sorry I took so long, thanks for waiting it means a lot" he smiled softly.
Something was off. I could see the pain on his face.
"Mase what do you want?" I ask coldly.
"For us to be friends and for you to let me explain why I kept football a secret" he says looking deeply into my eyes.
"I'm listening"' I say giving him my full attention.
"Sometimes I want to be treated like a normal boy, go to work, help others do what I do, make friends and have them like me for me not for being famous and rich. I didn't tell you because I thought maybe you'd use me like most people in my past have. From the moment I walked into class you tried to get to know me and that's without knowing I'm famous so I wanted to continue that. That's why I kept it secret" he admits.
"Mason I'm sorry about your past. I really am but I'm not like those people I promise. I'm not stuck up and a clout chaser. I struggle to make friends too because of my 'bitchy' persona but when you get to know me and get me to open up you realise I'm actually a big softy. Tell anyone that and I'll break your arm though" I tell him making him chuckle.
"So do you forgive me?" He softly asks.
"I guess" I smile.
He pulled me into a hug that seemed to last for ages so I could tell this made him happy.
"You do realise I'm breaking the law right now." I tell him.
"What do you mean?" He asks.
"We are not allowed to meet up with people outside of our house holds and we must stay 2 meters apart." I tell him.
"I guess some people are worth breaking the law for" he laughs.
"Cringe" I retort.
"You know we can make it legal..." he starts.
"How?" I question.
"If you move in with us? Even if it is just during lockdown" he states.
"My parents would never let me" I tell him.
"Well it was worth trying. I've got to go anyway the boys are wanting a mini football match" he tells me.
"Bye mase" I smile as he walks off.
I think that upset him. I do feel bad that he can't make friends because of his success, he must have had a difficult past with people so it makes me happy that he wants me to live with him. I began to walk back home with my dog with the thought still ticking on my mind. What would it be like to live with footballers? Am i a wag?
