Chapter 1: Failure and Façade

"I'm sorry... but I can't love you," Nay says to you, with a shaky voice but with firm conviction.

Your heart drops.

You try to hold the tears back, but you can't. All the preparation leading up to this moment, all your feelings and emotions, shattered by one simple sentence. The first tear drops onto the tiled floor of the mostly empty classroom, spare you and Nay.

"My goals are too important for love."

You knew that. He mentioned it several times.

"That's why... that's why I can't reciprocate your feelings."

You knew that. But, you hoped, at least... that he would consider you. However, you knew in your heart that he would never accept it.

"Please, forgive me," he says, leaving the classroom before he could break out in tears.

You were left alone in the classroom. That's when your feelings explode, like a dam bursting. You can tell, this is heartbreak.

You collapse on the floor, tears flowing.

Nay would step out of the pristine Academic Building One to watch the sunset. He would usually smile while watching it, considering the beauty of Caraga's landscape, but not today. He would sigh, holding back his tears.

"I hoped this day would never come."

You would peer out of the classroom windows and see Nay standing next to the volleyball court, watching the sunset as he always did.

"I should apologize to him," you think to yourself, as you see him walk back into the academic building. Nay usually stayed behind late on the campus on specific days, because he was either fulfilling his class monitor responsibilities or training hard for debate. On some days, he would stay until 9 pm finishing his prototype for Kid's Innovation Camp. You slightly smile while walking down the stairs. "I suppose that's one reason I love him," you muse.

Today, he was staying late because he was practicing for debate. The lights were on in Grade 9 Lithium, but today, it sounded different. Like there were two voices coming out from the classroom. One, you could recognize. It was definitely Nay's voice. However... the other one... sounded like a girl?

You quickly rush to the classroom, seeing what they were up to.

Hiding behind the corner, you peek. And what you see frightens you. You tense up, and your eyes widen.

Why was Nay kissing another girl?
