Chapter 3: Isolation and Injury

Nay would head home in his car. On the way home, all he could do was think about you, and the events that transpired.

Opening the gate to his house, he could feel his heart dropping. He loved [Name], but he could never bring himself to admit it. He had made convictions in the past, and they were never wrong.

Live a fulfilling life.

Prioritize yourself to live.

Love is detrimental.

"So why do I still love you?" he thinks to himself.

He went to the kitchen and started cooking his dinner.

"If only I didn't have this need to-"

Deep in thought, he started to become careless at his task at hand. He accidentally sliced the thenar webspace (space between his thumb and his finger) while chopping carrots.

"Tch," he mutters, applying pressure to the sliced area, "I knew I should've forgotten it."

He finished cooking, deciding to lay it off for the night, in an attempt to not become distracted. After eating, he would go upstairs and lay in his bed. Tears started streaming from his face.

"Huh?" he would think to himself, touching the tears that started to pour, "So I still love you..."

He would turn to his side and clutch his pillow, feeling the loneliest he's ever felt.

I don't want to live without you. I don't want to be alone.

The next day.

Their first subject was Physical Education. You and Nay would occasionally catch glances of each other, but both would turn away as soon as they both made eye contact with each other. What happened just hurt too much both parties.

"[Name], is it true that Nay rejected you?" your friend would ask.

"Yeah... and I don't care what happens to him anymore," you say, clenching your fist.

Your friend looks alarmed, but before they can get a chance to say anything, the coach calls everyone's attention.

"Class, please start your warm-up!" he shouts.

After the warm-up, the coach would gather everyone up into a circle.

"Class, today we're going to play a practice match of volleyball. Please count off."

The class president begins to count off. You desperately try to avoid being grouped with Nay, but you were at the front of the line.

You're both in the same group.

Nay looks conflicted, but he doesn't say anything about the grouping. He walks away from you and goes to his designated position.

Another thing you loved about Nay was his dedication... if he set his mind to it, he could improve at a rapid rate. You loved his passion, and that showed through volleyball. Over quarantine, he had conditioned himself physically and had gotten his power to insane levels... his spike height was now 303 centimeters.

You stop yourself mid-thought. "I thought I didn't care for him anymore..."

Nay's serves seemed off. He looked nervous, like something bad had happened to him. They were either extremely powerful, or extremely weak. The students surrounding them started to mutter.

"What happened to Nay?"

Nay serves once again, and this time, the enemy team receives it.

It wasn't only his pretty face, his build, his messy hair, but also his intelligence, his funny side, and his passion that you loved above all else. These qualities and so much more, like the memories with him kept you in love with him and kept you admiring him.

How could you just give up on him?

Suddenly, the ball flies towards you. Distracted because you were in deep thought, you weren't ready to receive it. It flies directly towards your face.

"Watch out [Name]!" kenshi shouts.

Suddenly, a figure of someones rushes directly in front of you. He receives the ball perfectly with an underhand receive.

You breathe a sight of relief, and recognize that it was Nay that saved you. You muster the courage to thank him.

"Nay, I-"

You stop dead in your tracks. Nay clutches his hand, wincing in pain. You see blood pouring from his hand.

He was injured, saving you.
