Note: Thank you Asriel_Dreemurr6662 for helping to encourage me to actually finish the update with the comment and vote on the previous section. Also, this chapter follows the plot of Episode 5, The shape in Grove Park (in a gay fanfic type way). I don't want to spoil anything for anyone!

It had been almost two weeks since Carlos and Cecil's meet-up at the science lab and, unbeknownst to the other, nether of them had stopped thinking about it. Carlos had tried to distract himself with science experiments and the novel topic of quantum physics in Night Vale, but every time his mind wandered or the scientist took a break, the blonde haired, attractive man popped into his mind. Cecil had tried to distract himself with sewing a top hat, six bow ties, one pair of socks, and two pairs of slippers, but that had just given him sore fingers, a surprising amount of broken needles, and even more longing for Carlos.
Carlos had wanted to call Cecil, but he didn't know what he would say. He knew that Cecil liked him, and he knew that he liked Cecil. The only problem was that Carlos had never been in a relationship before, and he wasn't sure if he would be good at it. Carlos wasn't sure if he knew anything anymore.

•~•

Cecil longed for Carlos to call. He had given him his phone number what seemed like an eternity ago, but he still hadn't called! Cecil had been dropping subtle hints on the radio about his love for the Scientist, but he hadn't seemed to notice. Cecil was starting to think that maybe Carlos didn't actually like him.

•~•

Carlos was getting upset with himself. He was being stupid. It had been what, a month now? They still hadn't talked since that day. Carlos decided to go down to the radio station and surprise Cecil. Before he could change his mind, Carlos marched out of the lab. He made his way to his car and drove the short drive to the Night Vale Community Radio Station.
As he approached the building, he noticed something strange. Where there were usually stacks of boxes or trucks unloading whatever Station Management had ordered, was a massive, quivering, obsidian black shape. It gave Carlos a deep feeling of utter dread. Not just because Cecil was inside and might need help, but for some other reason as well. He wanted to do some experiments on it to find out what exactly the shape was, but he was too scared to go near it. A scientist was supposed to be brave when no one else could be, but right now Carlos was shaking. He gripped the wheel of his car tight and pulled around to the parking lot. He turned on the radio and tuned it to Cecil's station. It was always on a different channel, so it took the scientist a few minutes to find. He heard Cecil talking about the Night Vale schools. He smiled at the sonorous tones of the man's voice.
Carlos felt a strong breeze and heard a loud chanting sound. He turned to his head to see what it was coming from and saw that the shape had turned a terrifying shade of maroon. The dread that Carlos had been experiencing deepened. He had a feeling that Cecil was in danger, and knew he had to do something. He quickly threw the vehicle in gear and raced to City Hall, not stopping until he was parked.
Carlos raced up the steps and burst into the City Council's office. They all looked away from their computer and up at Carlos at the same time. Carlos had always heard Cecil talk about the City Council as if they were one being with many members, but he had never expected this.
The City Council growled and hissed from each mouth and then simultaneously asked, "What do you want, Carlos?"
With no time to question the strange and frankly horrifying being that was City Council's appearance, Carlos tried to explain the situation at the radio station the best he could.
"...And I was wondering if you could do anything about the situation. The shape seems to be quite dangerous, and I'm worried about Cec- about the people in the radio station. They could get hurt."
The giant mass of heads and limbs was silent for almost a minute before they said, in unison, "The radio show host has been acknowledging and speaking about...you know. The people at Night Vale Community Radio Station deserves whatever comes to them." Carlos was astonished that The City Council had just refused to help when it was completely in their power to make all of this mess go away!
"Please," Carlos begged. "Someone could get hurt. Maybe Cecil doesn't know that he's not supposed to acknowledge or speak about the.... He always follows the rules! I'm sure that if you told him to stop he would. And maybe you could move the-the thing somewhere else so it can't hurt anyone."
The City Council was silent for what Carlos thought felt like an eternity before they responded.
"If there happens to be a situation that may or may not involve an in indescribable object and a certain radio station, we may or may not attempt to fix the situation. Not because you asked, though. We just feel like it might be something fun to do."
Carlos, while extremely confused, was relieved that the City Council had agreed to stop whatever was happening. This incident seemed like a sign that he should start talking to Cecil. The entire time, he had been scared that he might have lost Cecil before getting to him.
Carlos got to his car and started it up. The radio turned on with the engine, and Carlos heard the deep, familiar voice of Cecil.
"The City Council believes the reason for the violent reaction of the shape formerly in grove park that no one acknowledges or speaks about is because I have been acknowledging and speaking about it..."
Carlos was extremely grateful that the City Council had followed through with his suggestion. He was also relived to hear that Cecil was okay. At that moment, Carlos swore to himself that he would never let that man get hurt. He drove right back to the radio station to see Cecil while listening to the weather. It was a very nice song.
