Missing Training?

The sun had barely risen and Bokuto had already sprung out of bed, eager to get to his Saturday training which started in about two hours. He liked to wake up early so that he could get ready quickly and have left over time to watch TV. A bowl of rice and an egg filled his stomach that morning and eventually the time came around for him to grab his phone and keys and make his way to the sports hall. He drove to school and smiled as the clean smell of crisp morning air filled his lungs. He walked over to the hall, keys in hand, and was greeted by two of his teammates already there who were waiting for him to unlock the doors.

The three of them went inside and began to unpack equipment as more members began filing in. Bokuto rolled out the volleyball bin and scanned over his team. A third yeah, Yamato, had already called in to let everyone know he wouldn't be showing up today due to personal reasons, and Akaashi seemed to be running late. This was out of the ordinary for the second year, but Bokuto didn't question it. They began running warm ups and drills, and the day went on with no sign of Akaashi. This was strange, if he was running late he surely would've called, right?

Bokuto told the team to work on setting while he stepped off to the side to make some phone calls. He clicked on Akaashi's number and the phone rang, and rang, and rang, until a little click was heard, "Sorry I couldn't be at the phone, leave your name and I'll call back when I can". Bokuto looked at the phone sternly and decided he wouldn't leave his name, but instead he would try calling again, and again, and again.

He eventually gave up and scrunched his nose, smoke about to come out of his ears. He raised his hand and made a gesture as if he was about to throw his phone across the hall, but instead he took a breath and placed his phone gently back in his bag. Phones were expensive and he had no money for another.

The day went on as usual, but Bokuto couldn't help but constantly glance over at the hall doors, just in case Akaashi would walk in late. But he never did. Bokuto ended the training on time, which shocked all of his teammates who were used to sneaking out after Bokuto lost track of time. He picked up his bag and went straight to his car. He found a pen and a piece of paper in his bag and quickly jotted down all the training they covered today, so that he wouldn't forget what to tell Akaashi. He then turned on the car, and set the GPS to his friends house.

Usually, the knocking on a door would be followed by silence, as the person outside waits for someone to open the door. Akaashi, however, was awoken with a melody of knocking followed by the screeching of an untamed beast. His forehead was immediately greeted with the palm of his hand and he whispered to himself, "oh god".

Bokuto was outside, paper in hand, ready to whine to Akaashi about how irresponsible of him it was to miss training. His mind - full of arguments floating about - was quickly drained when a sickly looking Akaashi answered the door. Bokuto looked him up and down, noting his messy bed-hair, reddened nose and ears, baggy shirt and grey sweatpants. "Do you like my sweatpants Bokuto? I'll send you a pair if you want to stare at them in your own time instead", said Akaashi in a husky voice.

Bokuto immediately snapped his eyes back up to look at Akaashi in the face, it was a battle to keep them there, "D-did you just wake up?". Akaashi nodded and gestured for Bokuto to come inside, since he was letting all the warm air out by keeping the door open.

Akaashi picked up a pair of slippers and threw them gently towards Bokuto, but Bokuto had to lean forward to catch them, Akaashi's aim seemed to be off.

Akaashi spoke, "What are you here for? And do you want tea? I'm making some", Bokuto nodded at the offer for tea. He looked down at the training sheet in his hand and back up at Akaashi's tired face. He tucked the paper into his back pocket, "You didn't call in sick so I just came to see if everything is alright". Akaashi put a pot of water on the stove, "I'm sick, clearly. Sorry for not calling in, I guess I slept through the ringing". Akaashi looked at his phone and noticed the 27 missed calls. Bokuto braced himself to be yelled at for being annoying, but only the sound of boiling water followed.

He gave a confused look at Akaashi, who was focused on pouring tea into the water, "Hey Akaashi, you don't have the, you-know-what virus do you?". Akaashi sighed, "No, no I don't, I would be in the hospital right now if I did". Bokuto gave a nervous laugh, "Right." He didn't know what to say, Akaashi didn't seem like his normal, attentive and witty self.

Akaashi handed Bokuto a mug of tea, and the pair sat down in the living room. Bokuto felt like he needed to do something to bring Akaashi back to his normal self again. He thought about the things that make people better; sleep - which Akaashi seemed to get enough of, medicine - he couldn't do much about that, soup - hmm. "Akaashi! I have decided I am going to be a perfect housewife!". Akaashi turned his head to look at him, "You're not my housewife."

"I am going to make you soup!"

"You are not making me soup."

"I am making you soup!"

Sigh.
