The stars have been watching you your whole life. As you laughed and cried, loved and suffered. Today, you're finally going to do something that none of them can bear to watch. They blink out, the whole night sky turning dark just as you're about to do it.

For as long as I can remember, I've always felt a deep connection to the stars. I always felt like they were more than what science tells us they are. With the stars shining bright at night, I've never felt alone.
But, that didn't stop a different type of darkness from creeping in.
At a young age, both my parents had died leaving me an orphan with no other family. After years of bouncing from foster home to foster home, I realized that the stars were all I had. And I had been okay with that. They were enough. They knew my very soul.
It wasn't until this past year that I realized they were no longer enough.
They were too far away to wipe my tears or hold me close. They were too far away to pick me up when I had fallen. I loved the stars, but they weren't capable of giving me what I needed the most.
To be loved in return.
I tried and struggled to find my place in this world. But, how could I when I belonged to the stars? They were the only home I had ever known. I struggled to come to terms with the fact that I was too bright for this dull world.
As I stood on the ledge, looking down on the dark, murky water, I could see the stars shimmering brightly in the reflection. The stars were up there ready to listen and to take what I needed to give.
"You've always been there for me," I whispered. "But, I can't do this anymore. I can't go on like this. I'm ready to come home." My breath caught on the last word.
Home.
I couldn't imagine a more beautiful place than among the stars.
Closing my eyes, I didn't see how one after one the stars blinked out. As if they couldn't bear to watch what would happen next.
Pushing off with my feet, I jumped from the ledge just as someone grabbed hold of my hand. My eyes flew open as I dangled. I looked toward the starless sky before turning tear-stained eyes to the man who led my hand. When I looked into his eyes, I saw the stars.
